My great-grandmother, Mary Matheson Bain, was born in Cromarty in 1843. Her parents were James Bain, ferryman, and Margaret Mackeddie [McKeddy]. We do not know why 'Matheson' was given as a middle name, but perhaps there is a connection to the Bain/Matheson family mentioned in Kate's note.
