Footnote: Avoch is pronounced 'Och', (as in 'loch' without the 'l'). I think it means 'field' in Gaelic and is common in Scottish place names, usually spelt 'Auch' or 'Ach', as in Auchtermuchty = Field of the Pigs. Lachie
