Excuse my ignorance. I googled BALNAIN, KILCOY, URRAY and KILLEARNAN but did not find much information about these places. Will someone help me with the geography, location and significance of these places in the late 1700s? These places show up in my family research for MACKENZIE and MACKINTOSH. Thanks for any help! Bill Dorgan URRAY and KILEARNAN are both parishes in the County of ROSS and CROMARTY in what is known as the BLACK ISLE. They are on the border of INVERNESS SHIRE on the east side of Scotland on BEAULY FIRTH. Someone else may be able to tell you about BALNAIN and KILCOY. They may be villages or farms where your family lived. I am presently working on research in the same area in the 1800's and have seen many MACKENZIE's on the URRAY census. If you go to the Family Search .org website and then to their Library Catalogue you will find information about URRAY and KILLEARNAN Parish Church records, census etc. Hope this is some help. Hi Bill According to my grandfathers birth certificate, his place of birth was Balnain, Urray. County of Ross. The 1891 census gave this information Urray 1891 census ED 6/19 Balnain. Andrew MacKay Head Widower 60 Farm servant b. Kilmuir. Bella MacKay Daur Unmar 28 Gen Svt Dom b. Fearn. Georgina Ross Visitor Unmar 10 Scholar b. Fearn Someone and if I remember correctly it was our friend Donald MacLennan, told me that this place was called Balnain House. If I can find the e-mail from Donald, I think it stated that the family who lived in the main house was MacKenzies.
