    1. [RossGen] Angus McKenzie of Plockton
    2. Hello All, I hope that someone on the List may be able to help me over this proverbial 'brickwall'. My great grandfather, Angus McKenzie was, according to his obituary, born in 1842. A birthday book records his actual birth date as 12 March. Angus went to sea as a youth and, according to a family story, 'jumped ship' in Australia. Angus married Mary McMillan, an Australian born daughter of Donald and Janet (Macdonald) McMillan (the parents came from the Isle of Skye). Angus and Mary McKenzie's family were: Margaret born 1878; Donald born 1879; Flora Ann born 1881; Janet Jane born 1883 Christina born 1886; Catherine born 1889; Mary born 1891; Murdoch born 1893; Ann born 1894 The children were born at the home of Angus and Mary at Palmers Channel on the Lower Clarence River, northern New South Wales. When Ann was born her father, on registering her birth, recorded that he was born in Plockton, previously he had merely recorded Ross-shire. 1851 Census for Plockton Donald McKenzie Head 66 Fisherman 33 Harbour Street Margt M Wife 73 Angus Grandson 5 Murdoch McKenzie Head 39 19 Harbour Street M Wife 34 F son 11 F son 8 M dau 6 Jnr son 2 Rather frustrating to only have initials for some of these McKenzies. Whether Angus 5 is the one that I am seeking I do not know. He is conveniently in the right place. An aunt, now deceased, used to correspond with cousins D & M MacKenzie who lived at 5 Hartion Street, Plockton - whether this was before or after WW2 is unknown. Does any of the above sound familiar? I would welcome any suggestions and would love to make contact with someone tracing this family. Evelyn Smith from cool and sunny Sydney
