I have been researching Mac(Mc)Donald from the Ross and Cromerty area, specifically Tain. I have identified a John MacDonald who married a Catherine McKenzie in 1878 and the marriage extract provides his parents as Alexander MacDonald and Helen Paterson. Using the 1851 census I believe I have found the family of Alexander MacDonald but require his parents names to confirm and due to the varied spelling and shear quantity of MacDonald's, Scots Origins is far too expensive.
