I joined the list last week and thought it was a bit quiet. Maybe that's just because nobody is posting to it. Lets keep it going. I am researching Gairs in Moray, Nairn, Inverness and Ross. I have recently been told that they are part of clan Ross but they seem to move around. Could that be to do with the clearances or did they just have itchy feet. My great grandfather Alexander Gair married Margaret Fraser in Inverness on 15 March 1861. His parents were William Gair and Isabella McLennan. hers Donald Fraser and Mary McKenzie. According to the 1881 & 1891 census Alexander was born in Croy, but I have failed to find the family in the 1851 census in Croy & Dalcross or neighbouring parishes. I would be grateful for any suggestions.
