    3. Hello all, For X-mass I gifted myself with a long overdue membership in the Highland Family History Society (webpage is at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/scot/Highland.FHS.home.html ) With my subscription I noted that I administer the McDonald and Ross listserves on the internet, and would happily forward any postal requests for people without internet access onto the those listserves. I have received a letter full of charts and details on Corbets in Avoch (sister of one of my gt-grandparents married a Corbet in Tarbat Parish), too lengthy to print out here, but if anyone is climbing that tree I'll happily send that info on. Also today a letter from a person with McKenzie and Ross ancestors at Tain and possibly Scotsburn in Logie Easter. Below is a transcription of a letter from John Snowdon, with his postal address, anyone with potential links to his tree should post mail him at his address below. Donald. ======================================================================== [Transcript of postal request] From; Mr J K Snowdon 5 Middle Road Worcester Worcestershire WR2 4HT 21 March 2001 <snip intro paragraph> My interest is in my g.g/mother, Jane McKenzie. I have her marriage certificate, a photo of her grave in the Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia cemetary and the birth certificate of her daughter Ann. These two documents and the photo make it plain that she married Heinrich Adolh Hasselbrock at Beckworth, Victoria, Australia in August 1857. She had two children, Sarah, my grand-mother, born 1859 and Ann, born 1861. She died on 7th February 1867 aged 44. From her marriage certificate and Ann's birth certificate it appears that she was born in Tain, Ross and Cromarty and that her parents were John McKenzie and Ann Ross. The date of her birth would appear to be some time in 1822-23. I have a birth certificate for a Jane McKenzie born to John McKenzie and Ann Ross in the correct parish for Tain. Scotsburn is a medium-sized country house near Tain. The date of the certificate is earlier than one would expect, but I am inclined to accept this as being my g.g/mothers correct date of birth since her husband was aged 25 at the time of his wedding. She would have been appreciably older than him even if she were to have been born in 1822-23, I do not know when or how she arrived in Australia. <snip remainder of letter - which are a few paragraphs of thanks etc.> ===================================================================== John included an "extract of an entry in an OLD PAROCHIAL REGISTER", Parish of Logie Easter, County of Ross and Cromarty, dated December 20th 1814 for Jane McKenzie "daughter to John McKenzie Gardener at Scotsburn and of Ann Ross his spouse was born." ====================================================================== John also included three International Reply Coupons, so if there are any replys on line in the next week or so I will print them out and include them in a mailout to him, or you can respond directly to him yourself at the postal address at the top of the letter (above). All the best, Donald.
