Hi, i'm new to the list and i'm hoping to find out a bit more about why my Great Grandfather, George William Davage (1890-?) who's family had lived for several generations in Sheffield, Yorkshire would give up his job as an insurance agent and move his family to Evanton where he either ran or owned a Newsagents. George married Beatrice Rose, also native to Sheffield in 1912 and my Grandfather was born in Eckington, Derby in 1914,leaving Scotland in the 1930's when he joined the marines. My Grandad only had one sister, Alice who remained in Scotland, marrying a local man ; Hector Macleod,not sure if his last name is correct but it was something similar to this.George William also stayed in Scotland until he died in the 1960's or early 70's, my father only ever met him the once!
