Hello, Kiwicatz52!! Dear Jan, I found your query when digging in the archives, and I haven't seen a reply; if there has been you can easily delete me! Yes, Melvaig is about 10 miles north west of Gairloch, North Erradale about 5, on the same road. My mother came from Big Sand, about 2 miles south of North Erradale.I hope all these Norths and Wests don't confuse you! The nearest churchyard would probably have been in Gairloch. I have a copy of the pre1855 MI's for here (although there are some up to the1870's), and although the area heaves with MacKenzies there are not many MI's. The inscriptions tell their own story- (merchant) - (blacksmith) - (farmer) - (minister) etc. The ordinary folk in many cases could not afford a permanent memorial to their departed and now no traces remain.
