Hello Well, where to begin! Rodel, Isle of Harris is part of the Outer Hebrides or Western Isles of Scotland. You have to cross a stretch of water called the Minch to get to the Outer Hebrides - and the stretch of Islands containing the Isle of Harris (which in reality is connected to the Isle of Lewis to the north). Have a look at an atlas and you will see the Islands group at the north west of Scotland. Tarbat is on the mainland of Scotland - and we Islanders consider anywhere on the mainland is far away! Seriously, lots of Islanders left the Islands for the mainland, so there's nothing odd about it. Islanders were pretty well travelled people through most centuries we are researching! Good luck with your McRae search. You might want to search the Internet for info on the Isle of Harris, as there is a researcher called Bill Lawson at Northtom Harris, who does professional research and can be reached via the Internet.
