Hello everyone, Well, I'm from a mixed marriage of east and west Scotland - the east from Banffshire and Aberdeenshire and the west from Skye (possibly), Lochbroom (ROC) and ? pre-Lochbroom! I've got MacLeods who (travelling back in time) were in Lochbroom during the latter part of the 18th century up tp the 20th century - and Mathesons who, I suspect, travelled up from Lochalsh area to Lochbroom - and met my Macleods. There are also Mackenzies, Campbells, Munros and MacLeans, so I've plenty to research. I'm off to Ullapool tomorrow - the forecast is gales - so it's a good job I inherited someone's sea-legs and stomachs! MacLeods I want to find? Roderick in Strathpolly (where his son Murdoch was born). Roderick's wife Catherine MacLeod - both these of child rearing age in 1770. Murdoch MacLeod's marriage to Margaret Munro around 1800? Duncan Mackenzie and wife Margaret Mackenzie (married around 1800?) who had my ancestor Hector Mackenzie (who married Henrietta Campbell). Kenneth Campbell who married Mary Graham (around 1800?) and had Henrietta Campbell around 1802. Henrietta married Hector Mackenzie. Murdoch Matheson who married Mary Matheson around 1795?) and had my Dugald Matheson (who married Catherine Maclean 1825). and Murdoch Mackenzie who married Williamina MacLeod 1837 and who had my Williamina Mackenzie, who married my John Matheson 1865, son of Dugald Matheson and Catherine MacLean! According to my late father, granny's granny is buried at Rodel Isle of Harris - and that connection I have not been able to find! Would have been either Catherine Maclean or Williamina Macleod - but who knows! Anyway, that's my puzzle at the moment. I shall watch all the postings with interest. Hi - I am trying to research McRae/Dingwall family connections. I noticed that my great grandmother Marion McRae (who married William Dingwall) shows that she was born in Rodel Harris - as per centus for 1891 in Glasgow. Is that a large place? I saw somewhere a reference to Tarbat in Inverness for her as well. Would they be places of close proximity? The McRae family appear on the IGI searches as John McRae and Catherine Urquhart of Harris along with their eleven children. Would love to find out more about the McRae-Urquhart connection.
