Hi This place in Govan may be the right one. But an interesting point. I was reading some information on Birding in Rosshire. He talked about going through the forests and the plantations. I looked in OED and it could be plantings of the like of currents, rasberrys, gooseberries, etc. Where the birds of course woult be different from the forests. - OED also says that a settlement could be a plantation. Also, an early British document mentions additions to Scottish Plantations. But a place which I'd normally call a Farm where they worked on these Plantations could be called that. Just a thought. -- Sincerely, Celia Ann Roberts, Reference Simsbury Public Library 725 Hopmeadow Street Simsbury, CT 06070 860-658-7663, Fax 860-658-6732
Hi Celia: I am still open to all suggestions. I have ordered a film for Stornoway and when it comes in, if I can locate some other dates I want, I plan to order this certificate also. This Plantation has to be a Registration District and so far, I have listed 984 Births, 285 Marriages and 552 Deaths just for two names I am searching. I have never once, until this one, found anyone in Plantation. They are registered in places like Tradeston, Bridgton, High Church, Catton, Rutherglen, Anderston which are all areas around Glasgow and Denny, Cambuslang, Canongate and others around Edinburgh. I have found others around North Uist, Stornoway and Dalziel (N. Lanarkshire) etc. but have never seen anyone even mention Plantation Registry before this. On my web search, there was mention of plantations such as large farms but none that were named that with a capital "P". I may just go searching under the place Govan and see what I can find. Many Thanks for your ideas.
