Hallo everyone, from a new list member, I have just joined this list as I found that my 4xGreat Grandparents came from Ross and Cromarty. They were Alexander Mackenzie and Isobel Allan and lived in the Tain area at the beginning of the 19th century. Their first five children were born at Tain and were James b. 1808, Ann b. 1810, Margaret b. 1814, George b. 1816 and Elizabeth (Betsy) b. 1818. They then moved to Kilmuir Easter parish and lived at a place called Heathfield where Alexander was a shoemaker. They had two more children, Gustavus Aird b. 1822 and Isabella (Bell) b. 1824, who was my 3xGreat Grandmother. Some time between then and about 1840 the family moved to Aberdeen as I have found four of the family there on the 1881 census and three of them married in Aberdeen. If any of you have come across any of these MacKenzies or any Allan family I would be very pleased to hear from you. I have not found the marriage of Alexander and Isobel on the IGI or at Scots Origins (or their births as far as I can tell - there seem to be several Alexander MacKenzies around there of suitable age) so appear to have hit a brick wall at the moment. Any clues or suggestions greatly appreciated. Barbara King Cambridge UK
