Many thanks for those who replied re: the location of Ferintosh. I now have a general idea where it is, though I haven't found a map with a specific location, yet. It appears I jumped the gun a little with the question. A web search turned up quite a lot of information about Ferintosh, (but no precise location). Ferintosh was the site of the 18th century whiskey manufacturing works of the Forbes of Culloden. My ancestors lived there at the height of the whiskey production, it would appear. Whether that is a significant detail or not, I have yet to find out. However the web search did turn up an unexpected cousin, so it's possible I may find out more soon. Jim
Hi Jim: I picked up my antena to the name FORBES. My ancestor Alexander Forbes, b.abt.1755, came from the Highlands, ROC, prob Cromarty/Nigg area. Still to be proved. Which Forbes family are you researching? Have you been to the Forbes castle website? You may get something on your topic by contacting Lord Forbes, I found him most amiable. Not to say he knows genealogy to help you, but that they have a bed and breakfast and say you can "explore Whiskey Trails...", so might have some info re your whiskey makers? Then again, it may be just a name of a place and not related. Check out their site at: http://www.castle-forbes.demon.co.uk/accom.htm Carol Vater [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Wright and Rona Drennan" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: February 19, 2001 22:33 Subject: Re: [RossGen] Ferintosh > Many thanks for those who replied re: the location of Ferintosh.
