    1. General Inquiry About Twins
    2. Deb Forsyth-Petrov
    3. Hi Just a general question... I am confronting a strange family situtation and wondering.... Was it common in the highlands in the 1840's when twins were born to give one of the twin babies to a brother (and wife) to raise? The family that had the twins had already birthed several presumably healthy babies (all males) and went on after the twins to have some more. For interest, the twins mother kept the girl and gave the boy away. Thanks Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: <Lachiemunro@aol.com> To: <ROSSGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 31, 2005 1:00 PM Subject: Re: [RossGen] ATC in Stornoway >I think it might have been the Auxilliary Training Corps, but I can't find > out much about it on the web. > Maybe somebody a wee bit older than me can help. > > > Lachie > > > ==== ROSSGEN Mailing List ==== > To remove your email address from this list, visit this url: > http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cheps/maillist.htm > >

    3. Hello Bill In August 2003 I set out my maternal line which came from the vicinity referred to by you. Some of the names also seem to coincide (with a bit of imagination) so I will give you what may be relevant. Regarding my letter referred to above,Donald Maclennan replied and set me straight in a few matters and advised of a few errors when he stated " I have checked the Old Parish Register for the marriage and births for George (Fraser) and Isabella and it is clear that Isabella was a MCLEMAN not Mclennan as listed in familysearch.org and the IGI.This is unfortunate as McLeman and McLennan are two separate and different clans.........". The above elaboration is a divergence from his main research which produced the following:- George FRASER,cooper in Fortrose married Isabella MACLEMAN in Rosemarkie 29 June 1822.There were nine children. One of the children,Jane b.27 Dec. 1831 married a John Ross (coachman,Ardross) at Rosskeen on 16 Dec. 1853. The 1881 census has one of their children named as Hugh MUNRO Ross having been born in Rosskeen. Populations being small in those areas, there may be some connection. 3. Hi again! I am searching for current researchers of the family of Kenneth Matheson (my great uncle) who (when in Dingwall), married Mary Matheson (ms Matheson, from Donald Matheson, missionary and Flora Ross) in 1908. Apart from my granny, Margaret Matheson, Kenneth was the only other Matheson in the family who married. I believe they had a son John? I would be gobsmacked if any of their descendants are researching the family (is it always the case that there's only ever one member interested in these things!?) - BUT if anyone out there is researching Dingwall or Inver descendants - I would love to hear from you. MACINTOSH, JACK, REID, PATIENCE are a few of my names. It's a very interesting place and I even went there for my honeymoon in the early 80's. Quite an interesting dialect which may be related (some words) to Hebrew traditions spoken by the Herring Fishing business people. You can still hear the old brogue with the "thee's and "thou's" spoken by a few of the oldest natives. Unfortunately the speech traditions are dying out. I love Avoch and feel a great connection there even though I'm third generation. I'd love to go back. Christine in Ohio, USA
