    3. Fiona, I have noted that one of the names you are interested in is McLeay. Our Aunt who has just passed away 17 days short of her 100th birthday married a John McLeay and I am sure at least John grew up in Avoch - he had two brothers and a sister BUT from the 4 sibblings only one son forthcoming and he in turn has no children - so that line will die out completely. Maybe a connection though. Joy in West Aus.

    3. Hello from Down Under!! Can anyone help? According to family records my MacKenzie 3 x great grandfather and his siblings were born at Melvaig and North Erradale and I have tried to find where they are on a map, but they don't seem to exist. I assume they are near Gairloch, were there is still family today. If anyone know where these places are, I would also like to know where the nearest churchyard to them both would be. Kenneth had a son John and another son Murdoch. They emigrated to Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada before 1797 when their son Robert was born in Ontario. Do you know anything else about your John?

    3. Posted on: Ross and Cromarty, ScotlandGenWeb Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Scotland/Ross/2216 Surname: MacRae, McRae ------------------------- Hello, I'm new to the list. I'm looking for information on Donald McRae supposedly born in 1816, probably in the Parish of Kincardine in Ross and Cromarty. His parents apparently were Alexander McRae (born 1792 Parish of Kincardine) and Isabella Gibson (born 1789 Parish of Nigg). These two were married in the Parish of Nigg, R & C in 1814. Alexander's name was spelled the unusual way of McKrae at the time of his marriage. I'd be interested as well in the parentage of Alexander & Isabella. Alexander & Isabella died in Grand Anse, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1868 & 1876, respectively. Their firstborn, Donald married Margaret MacKay in St George's Channel in 1844. Sometime between 1814 and 1844 this family arrived in Cape Breton. I don't know when or how and would love to know. Donald did have siblings, Alexander, Isabella, Christy, William, George & Philip, all born by 1833 (whether in Scotland or Nova Scotia I don't yet know). I'd appreciate any info anyone might have or suggestions on where to look. Thank you very much.

    3. Posted on: Ross and Cromarty, ScotlandGenWeb Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Scotland/Ross/2215 Surname: Mackenzie, Beaton ------------------------- Frances, Many apologies for not replying sooner. Haven't had much time recently to do any of this. Re: Isabel Beaton who married Hugh Mackenzie. In addition to daughter Isabella (b 1 Oct 1859) they also had Hugh (b 3 Oct 1856), James (b 23 Feb 1862), Margaret (b 14 Mar 1865) and William (b 1 Sep 1870). Quite a peiod of time, but the name fit. Hugh and Isabella named after the parents, you advised that Isabel's parents were William Beaton and Margaret McIntosh, so William and Margaret named after maternal grandparents, leaving James. I can find a James Mackenzie who married Mary MacDonald and had two children in Lochcarron; Ann (b 26 Feb 1823) and Hugh (b 17 Jul 1825). This could well be the Hugh that marries Isabel Beaton in 1849, and would mean that their son James was named after his paternal grandfather. Hugh Mackenzie married Isabel Beaton on 6 Jan 1849. You state that her brother Donald Beaton married Mary Mackenzie on 8 Jan 1849. I have 1850 and think this makes more sense as it would be unusual to a brother and sister to both get married only 2 days apart. Here is all I have on Beatons in Lochcarron ; Helen b 4/12/1819 John Beaton Eliza MacNair Elizabeth b 17/2/1822 John Beaton Eliza MacNair Helen b 2/10/1822 William Beaton Margaret MacIntosh Donald b 20/5/1856 Donald Beaton Mary Mackenzie Barabra Ann b 27/8/1858 Kenneth Beaton Mary MacKay Isabella b 17/11/1858 Donald Beaton Mary Mackenzie William b 9/6/1864 Niel Beaton Christy MacKay William b 12/9/1865 Donald Beaton Mary Mackenzie Niel b 18/10/1866 Niel Beaton Christy Mackay Alexander b 20/8/1869 Niel Beaton Christy Mackay Malcolm b 28/10/1871 Donald Beaton Mary Mackenzie Alexander Peggy b 16/2/1873 Neil Beaton Christy MacKay Donald Beaton m Catherine Mackenzie 23/7/1823 John Beaton m Sally McQueen 12/9/1845 Helen Beaton m William McNier 3/1/1846 Isabel Beaton m Hugh Mackenzie 6/1/1849 Donald Beaton m Mary Mackenzie 8/1/1850 Ann Beaton m John Fraser 6/1/1851 Bess Beaton m Lachlan MacKay 27/1/1859 Margaret Beaton m James Douglas 30/7/1863 Ann Beaton m Alexander MacLennan 8/10/1863 You appear to have most of this already, but hope something may be of interest.
