Slumbay is marked on one of the maps. You will need to zoom in to a smaller area when you get Lochcarron. It is on the road from Lochcarron to Strome Ferry. Sorry for sending that last long e-mail. I had intended to send only the Lochcarron website address but am not very good at the technical stuff and see that I have sent all kinds of Lochcarron area site addresses. Lilian
According to "Place-Names of Ross and Cromarty" Slumbay (previously Slumba) is in the parish of Lachcarron. The gazetteer says that Lochcarron is in SW Ross-shire on the coast. Fran
Hi I believe I have found one of my ancestors in the IGI records Catherine Mclennan mother listed as Catherine Mcdonald born 1798 my question is where is Slumbra Rossand Cromarty located ,is it close to Beauly in the county of Inverness and also what records would be available from that time frame I would like to find who the father was. Thanks Jean Thomas
Donald, I am hopefully replying back through Rossgen as well as to you, as my email to Alton McDonald of Palmerston North NZ came back and I thought the two of you would pay to exchange information as you were interested in Applecross Macraes. The main family I have been researching is that of my grandfather John McLeay born 24th March 1855 at Lonbain in Applecross. His mother was Ann Kennedy who died in 1895 at Lonbain, supposedly 68 years old. She may be related to your John Kennedy who married Betsy McLean in 1802. John McLeay's father was Alexander McLeay who died in 1880, aged 67. Ann and Alexander McLeay married in 1851. Alexander McLeay was the son of Donald McLeay [1775-1860] and Kate Macrae. Alexander was one of two siblings called Alexander and both lived!!![ Not the usually practice of renaming]. Donald and Kate had Ann in 1803, Janet 1807, Catherine 1809, John 1810, Alexander 1813, Jesse 1813, Donald 1817, Alexander 1821 [ I think I have those dates correct] I think Alexander McLeay's mother Kate Macrae is related to the family of Macrae being researched by Donald and Alton. However some other people on the list may be able to add information. Hi all, Just wanted to let everyone know that the GenConnect at RootsWeb Query Board server is down for repairs. If you visit any of the associated websites (with the lists above) and try to post a query to the message board you will receive a page not found error. I have been told that they are working on this server and that it should be back online soon (no real time given). Thanks for your patience! Seeking comments re history, particularly laxfishers on estate in 1825-30. My ancestor given a middle name Conan (Andrew Conan Leslie), may have been born there. Parents Alexander & Jean Leslie had been lax fishing in Beauley, and were in 1830s on the Mackenzie estate in Lewis.
