Our ancestor John Lawrence died on 22nd March, 1891 at Avoch and is buried there. His wife Janet Lawrence died 24th April, 1907 at 4 George Street, Avoch. (she was nee Janet More). I have two queries: Is it possible for me to obtain the information as to whether there is a tombstone for these two ancestors at the Avoch cemetery. and next: Does 4 George street still exist and would it be possible to obtain photos of both the above. I look forward to receiving replies. Joy Calder in Western Australia.

Hello Donald, Its a bit more of an in depth task than I was looking at, but if I happen to note any strays I'll pass them on. Janet > Janet that is a great offer! > > I'd be interested in any "strays" from Lochbroom Parish, especially if > the birthplace is listed as Coigach.

Hi all, just to let you know that the film I ordered (1891 Census for Tain, Kirkmichael (Resolis), Nigg, Rosemarkie & Rosskeen) has arrived. So last chance for any requests for look ups, and to those who have already asked... answers should find their way to you in the next week. Janet Connochie Christchurch, NZ
I'm searching for information and descendants of George M. ROSS, b. 1864 in Illinois; Jesse D. ROSS, b 1894 in Iowa; and Lloyd L. ROSS, b 1899 in Iowa. Please contact me off-list. Thanks. -- Pam
Sorry! In the second paragraph the date should also be 1855, not 1885. Have just been re-reading the GRO info leaflets and figured out one problem that was keeping me from getting results! While the IGI will pull up entries for e.g."Anne" when one enters "Ann" on the search form, the GRO form will not without using wildcards. Another useful bit of info I found is that the year 1855 entries for Births, Deaths and Marriages can have a lot of information e.g. names and ages of surviving deceased person's children on the person's Death Certificate; or names, ages and places of birth of the mother's previous children on an 1885 birth certificate etc.I'm now planning to try to find siblings etc if my direct ancestors didn't have anything happening that year, to see what family history I can glean from these extracts. Hi I have found a Hector McIntosh who was born abt 1750 at Elrig, Strathnairn, Scotland. His parents were William and Margaret McIntosh. I found this information on the familysearch website at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp Not sure where exactly Elrig is but it appears to be in Dumfries and Galloway. Hope this helps you with your search. Regards Hester Smith. Hi, I'm new at this trying to find a connection. Hector Mcintosh born abt. 1755 in Elrig,Strathnaine, Scotland married Mary Mckay born about 1730 in Scotland. Hector's parents seem to be William John Macintosh and Margaret Monoe married abt. 1750 Parents probably from the same area of the country. I could not find the Elrig or Strathnaine area on any maps. Where is that?. What parish would they be from? Where would I find census and burial records on line? William and Margaret had other children:Alexander abt 1753, John abt. 1755 married barbara Mc Leod Margaret 1758 who married Unk Osborn Jannet abt. 1760 married Robert McKay Thanks for the help Rev. Dr. Linda Line [email protected]
In addition to my previous post the following parishes are on the same film. 079 - Kirkmichael 078 - Nigg 080 - Rosemarkie 081 - Rosskeen 082 - Tain -janet
Hello all, Time for another kind offer. I have ordered the 1891 Census Film for Tain from my local FHC. If anyone has someone they would like me to look up _and_ preferably have the index reference for them, just ask away (off-list) and I'll see what I can do. Also if they are from a different parish, but on the same film (film number 0208628) ask away. I'm not sure what other parishes are on the film. The person I am looking for on the film is Thomas Connochie, he was born in Berwick, but was up in Tain in 1891. His future wife, Janet Ross McLeod was from Tain, so I'm curious to see what he was doing up there. Janet Connochie Christchurch, New Zealand

I'd be interested in any "strays" from Lochbroom Parish, especially if the birthplace is listed as Coigach. No Connochies in Coigach I am afraid, but anyone else with roots there feel free to browse my webpage at http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~coigach On my webpage are now all the 1841 and 1851 Coigach censuses, missing a few Households for 1861, have most of 1871, and a smaller but growing number of 1881 and 1891. Biggest gap is communities that some documents refer to as in Coigach, but others refer to as in the rest of Lochbroom, such as Isle Martin, Drumrunie, and Strathcanaird (Achendrean). > The person I am looking for on the film is Thomas Connochie, he > was born in Berwick, but was up in Tain in 1891. Mark, Thank you for your reply. I have checked Tarbat Churchyard on a couple of occasions for my ancestors while on holiday in the area but without success. As you know some of the stones are very difficult / impossible to read. We will have to hope that those running the New Tarbat Centre find some resources to turn up some more information. Thank you again for taking the time to respond. Mary.

Mary, I check them regularly for clients, especially since I only live 4 miles from the graveyard. As far as I know, there are no printed MI's of Tarbat.
