    1. [RossGen] 1862 marriage reg in Edderton
    2. Donald MacDonald-Ross
    3. Hello all, Appreciate if anyone has access to the 1862 Edderton (in Easter Ross) registrations if they could supply names of parents of Duncan McKenzie and Helen Ross, married there 18 June 1862 (and of course any details not in the I.G.I. such as occupations). Duncan was born in Lochbroom Parish in Wester Ross, and I *think* he was from Achiltibuie in Coigach, but the parents names on the marriage reg should prove or disprove my guess... Duncan and Helen had four children at Lochbroom from 1863 to 1868, then a fifth at Delting in Shetland (Zetland) in 1870, where the family appears in the 1881 census. Thanks! 3. Currently I am back to my Nicol line. I have researched back to John Nicol m Ann Bain 14 Aug 1791 from Parish records of Avoch. I believe from the naming pattern that John's father was a David & mother Janet. John & Ann had children Ann, Janet, David & Thomas. This Thomas married Christian Urquhart 03 Jul 1829 in Avoch. Christian had parents Donald Urquhart & Ann McDonald. I have been unable to find their marriage. Is any one out there perhaps researching any of the above. Wendy, Perth Aus

    3. Time for the annual posting of my interests. I have lots of infomration and will gladly share all I have. ============================= Donald Anderson and Isobel Munro of Tain m. c. 1783 Donald was a soldier in 1784, and a tenant farmer after that. There was an Isobel Munro baptized in Tain on Nov 18, 1768, daughter of James Munro and Ann McKay, but I don't know if she was "my" Isobel. They had 6 children: William Anderson William was baptized May 19, 1784. The baptismal record does not indicate his date of birth. He married Janet McIntosh and moved to Kiltearn parish, and had four children there (Marion-1806, Donald -1809, James-1813, and Christy-1823. Hugh Anderson Hugh Anderson was born November 26th, 1785 and was baptized four days later. Hugh likely married a woman named Jean, moved to West Cadboll in Fearn, and was a Cartwright. He and Jean had four children; Donald (abt. 1821), William (abt. 1826), Barbara (abt 1827), and Hugh (abt 1829). Donald Anderson Donald Anderson was born May 12th, 1788 and baptized on the 20th of the same month. Harry Anderson Harry (sometimes spelled Hary) was the first child born in the parish in 1791, arriving January 4th and being baptized two days later. Harry married Margaret Corbet February 13th, 1809 when he was a corporal with the 5th Battalion Militia. Harry later became a farmer and Catechist with the Free Church. They had these children: Margaret (1814), Simon (1819) Kenneth (1821) Charles (1824) Marion Anderson Donald and Isobel's only daughter; Marion was born June 20th, 1793 and baptized one week later. Roderick Anderson Roderick Anderson was born June 15th, 1795 and baptized one week later. Roderick married Margaret Ross Christmas day of 1829 in Fearn. He was a farmer in Balmucky of Cadboll, close to where is brother Hugh lived. They had five children; Anna (1832), Isabella (1834), David (1836), Donald (1839), Donald (1840), and Georgina (1843).

    3. The advice I would give you is to look at the microfilm copy of the original parish register, which can be ordered through your local Family History Center. It may not give you any more information than what you have found, as this is the source you found on Origins. To me, it is always best to look at the original source. And it is so interesting to see your family on the original register. The FR # is the page or folio number on the microfilm. The Old Parish Registers are not for sale on CD, but they are at your local Family History Center and also are extracted and should be on the International Genealogical Index (IGI) which is on: familysearch.org website. Good luck. 3. Hello All, I hope someone on the List can help me with a MATHESON puzzle which I have. Dugald Matheson, married to Catherine Maclean died 1865 on Tanera, Coigeach. He gave his parents as Murdoch Matheson and Mary Matheson (m.s. Matheson), both deceased by 1865. Dugald Matheson, did on one occasion, give his birth place as Portree (Isle of Skye), on other occasions, Lochbroom. I have searched for a marriage of Murdoch and Mary Matheson and have so far been unlucky. The only entry I have found, has been a marriage between Murdock Matheson and an unknown, Lochbroom, 1800 (Origins website). The entry has a miscellaneous column, which says Name not given/Mackenzie/FR38 - how do you interpret this? The thing is, this marriage entry is a good 8 - 10 years after I would expect my Murdoch's marriage to have been, so maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Would love to hear from anyone with a similar background, or advice as to where I should now look. Kate Ferris Kate and David Ferris [email protected]

    1. [RossGen] Input please!

    3. I have not been able to gather much information on Murdo ROSS, my 2X Great Grandfather. His wife appeared as a widow on the 1851, 1861 and 1871 Census returns for Stornoway and Murdo does not appear with Catherine (his wife or widow) and her daughter on the 1841 Census. I have, however, discovered an Alexander ROSS living two doors from the widow of Murdo ROSS on both the 1851 and 1861 Census for Stornoway. I am hoping that perhaps there is a connection and they could have been brothers. Ages would have been right and they were both listed as Seaman, Merchant Service. On the 1851 Census Alexander lists his place of birth as Harris, Inverness and on the 1861 Census as Dunnegan(?), Inverness. Are these two places close together? Another indication that perhaps they could have been brothers is that on a copy of the death extract for a child born to my Gr.Grandmother, the informant was listed as Henrietta Ross, Aunt. Henrietta appears as a daughter of Alexander ROSS on the Census returns. The relationship of Aunt would not be correct, but they could certainly be related. I have a copy of the death extract for Alexander ROSS giving his parents names as Donald ROSS, Crofter, and Isabella ROSS, maiden name MACLEOD. Any input would be most appreciated as to the place of birth of Alexander and also the possibility of there being a connection between the two families. Thank you. 3. Hello... We are trying to trace the ancestors of Anne Margaret THOMSON, b11.10.1908 in Cromarty. >From her marriage certificate, we have found that her parents are William Bisset Thomson (a master mason) and Mary MacLeod. We would like further info on this couple's ancestors, in particular William Bisset Thomson's parents (and also Mary MacLeod's details if someone can help with that!). The Curator at Cromarty Museum has told us that they lived at 9 The Denny, Cromarty. Other details are: 1910: owned by Alexander Bisset, and occupied by William Bisset Thomson. 1874: John Bisset (farmer) 1855: Alexander Bisset (mason) 1841: Alexander Bisset (24 occupants). I am very new to this list and to genealogy, so if anyone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Suzanne Irvine Brisbane, Australia
