    1. [RossGen] MINISTER OF FERN (FEARNE)
    2. Keith Cramond
    3. Hello List, The folowing information has been passed on to me by a friend who viewed it in the Scottish Record Office: Register of Deeds 1694 William Cramond son of James Cramond, Minister of Fern (Fearne) Ref. Mack. LXXXIV. 386. It is unclear whether it is James or William who was the Minister (depends which way one reads it) and also whether the church referred to is Fearn Abbey near Tain. We have a booklet about this Abbey but it only refers to the Abbots up until 1587. Does anyone have any knowledge about either the above mentioned Cramond's or the Fern Church? KEITH (New Zealand)

    3. Hi Again Can anyone help me? I am looking for info on a Donald Gibson who was born on April 10 1787 in Cromarty, his parents were Donald Gibson and Anne McRae. I am trying to find out if this Donald Gibson could be my Donald, according to the IGI my Donald was born abt 1788 in Sutherland, spouse's name Janet McKay. So far I have not been able to find a Donald born in Sutherland at that time. Can anyone help please. Thank You Robin ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. [RossGen] MacKay
    2. Robin Van Belleghem
    3. Hi Everyone I still have not been able to come up with the right birth date or parents for my William MacKay. He was born in Edderton, the IGI has him born abt 1808, his spouse was Isabel Munro they were married Dec 10 1824 in Tain. According to the 1851 census he was 43 then, the 1861 census has his age as 55 and the 1871 census has him as 67. So this could mean he was born in 1803,1806 or 1808. Could anyone help me figure this out. Thank You Robin ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The info for that birth was not extracted from a Parish Register, but submitted by a Mormon researcher sometime between 1961 and 1991. The I.G.I. is strongest where volunteers extracted info from written records that can be double checked and searched for info ommitted from the index, such as Parish Registers, and weakest where data was submitted. However that submitter did list his wife later in life as Isabel Munro which agrees with your research into death regs or whatever... Lacking access to whatever documents used by the Mormon though I would discount the birth year, and consider it a "guesstimate". > spouse was Isabel Munro they were married Dec 10 1824 > in Tain. 3. Mr. Donald MacLennan Thank-you. The family from the 1881 census is mine. Can you tell me how you obtained the family information on Alexander and Helen MacDonald from familysearch, perhaps I've not been using it to its potential. You did provide me with some info I didn't have. Yours Martin Beveridge

    3. I have been researching Mac(Mc)Donald from the Ross and Cromerty area, specifically Tain. I have identified a John MacDonald who married a Catherine McKenzie in 1878 and the marriage extract provides his parents as Alexander MacDonald and Helen Paterson. Using the 1851 census I believe I have found the family of Alexander MacDonald but require his parents names to confirm and due to the varied spelling and shear quantity of MacDonald's, Scots Origins is far too expensive. Any ideas how I can confirm??!! Thanks Martin Beveridge Ontario, Canada

    3. Would it be possible for those of you out there who are in the Fraser family line and you know your relatives were from the Tarbat area to list the name/s and birthdates of your relatives if you have them. Perhaps we can collaborate and tie some of the Fraser people together. I am the great great granddaughter of David Fraser (born 1798){( his father was Donald Fraser born ? and married Margaret ?} and who married Johanna Mackenzie. Their son, David Fraser was my great grandfather. He married Williamina Michael and had my grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Fraser. In looking at the relatives of all the Frasers I have,, I have the following names to which I would like to attach some "live" relations. The names I have thus far or as far back as I can go are the children of David Fraser and Johanna Mackenzie ( daughter of Thomas Mackenzie and Margaret ?)......they are Donald Fraser (born 1829), Margaret Fraser (b. 1830), Elizabeth Fraser (b. 1833), Alexander Fraser (b. 1836) and married Christina Holmes (b. 1835), Thomas Fraser (born 1839), Johanna Fraser (b. 1846), Flora Fraser (b. 1848) and my great grandfather, David Fraser (b. 1841.). Alexander Fraser and Christina had 7 children as best I can tell. They were Johan Fraser, Donald Fraser, Frederick Fraser, Jessie Fraser, David Fraser (b, May 24, 1858) and Walter Fraser, who married Ann Mckenzie. These births are most likely in the 1850's. Perhaps there is someone out there who is connected and does not know it. I would hope that somehow all the Fraser people in the Tarbat area are related in some manner, be it cousins , etc. Thanks, Barbara

    1. [RossGen] IGI - Two Marriage Dates?
    2. Suzanne Irvine/Mal Smith
    3. Hello, Could someone please suggest reasons why I recently found 2 separate dates for the same marriage, on the IGI? Alexander Bisset married Ann Ferguson in Rosemarkie on 9.4.1824 (IGI M110802). I also found their marriage as listed on 10.4.1824 but in Cromarty (IGI M110614). Does this have something to do with banns, or parish size/importance, or what? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Suzanne Irvine Brisbane Aust.
