    3. Hi! I also work at an LDS Family History Center. We have the complete 1881 Census on CD at the Center and it can be purchased privately by logging on to familysearch.org I have found that the records for Scotland are very good as you can order OPR (Old Parochial Registers) and Census records on microfilm through your local FHC for every parish. We also have all the Birth, Marriage and Death Indexes on microfilm from 1855 when Civil Registration began into the 1900's. To find out what microfilm to order, you may check the Family History Library Catalog at the FHC or log on to familysearch.org and check the catalog there. Good luck. Marion PS: My ancestors lived at Leckmelm, Lochbroom parish. They were Campbells and and I have them back to Henrietta Cameron born about 1785; Janet McKenzie born about 1793; John Campbell born abt 1782; Alexander Campbell born abt 1802 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Phillips" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 5:50 AM Subject: [RossGen] Lookup 1851 > Hi Sks, > I work at our local LDS centre, but there are very limited records on Scotland, so I am unsure what is available. 3. Hi Celia: I am still open to all suggestions. I have ordered a film for Stornoway and when it comes in, if I can locate some other dates I want, I plan to order this certificate also. This Plantation has to be a Registration District and so far, I have listed 984 Births, 285 Marriages and 552 Deaths just for two names I am searching. I have never once, until this one, found anyone in Plantation. They are registered in places like Tradeston, Bridgton, High Church, Catton, Rutherglen, Anderston which are all areas around Glasgow and Denny, Cambuslang, Canongate and others around Edinburgh. I have found others around North Uist, Stornoway and Dalziel (N. Lanarkshire) etc. but have never seen anyone even mention Plantation Registry before this. On my web search, there was mention of plantations such as large farms but none that were named that with a capital "P". I may just go searching under the place Govan and see what I can find. Many Thanks for your ideas. 3. Hi This place in Govan may be the right one. But an interesting point. I was reading some information on Birding in Rosshire. He talked about going through the forests and the plantations. I looked in OED and it could be plantings of the like of currents, rasberrys, gooseberries, etc. Where the birds of course woult be different from the forests. - OED also says that a settlement could be a plantation. Also, an early British document mentions additions to Scottish Plantations. But a place which I'd normally call a Farm where they worked on these Plantations could be called that. Just a thought. -- Sincerely, Celia Ann Roberts, Reference Simsbury Public Library 725 Hopmeadow Street Simsbury, CT 06070 860-658-7663, Fax 860-658-6732

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Iain Sutherland To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2001 6:42 PM Subject: Maclennan/Burns My Grandfathers half brother was born in Dingwall ? in 1870. Today I have received a letter from Australia dictated by his son who must in his 80's or 90's. Donald Burns was the son of Margaret Maclennan and seems to be shown as being her son on the 1881 Census but as Donald Maclennan. The letter tells me that " he went to Australia in about 1855 under a scheme to young people from England,Scotland and Ireland "with sixpence in his pocket" the letter goes on to tell me that the ship had Sail And Steam and landed at Port Mackay which was an all Scottish settlement." Donald had a long life and 11 children in Australia. I would be interested in any information on shipping lists for this scheme or Passenger lists etc. Iain [email protected]
