Hello, I have another question which I hope someone may be able to answer. In the Resolis OPR, there is a gap around the 1800's. I am trying to trace a Donald Thomson and Isobel Munro. I assume they were married sometime between 1800 and 1809, judging by their children's births and census returns. However, how can I successfully obtain each of their birthdates, and also their parents, with the least amount of error? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Suzanne Irvine Brisbane, Australia.
Hello, I was wondering if someone could enlighten me - I have the Kincardine OPR at my local FHC. Unfortunately, it starts at 1804. My questions - did this parish change names around this time? If so, from what? Or, would it be likely that records prior to this time were somehow lost? Any suggestions someone may have for tracing back prior to this date, in this area, would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Suzanne Irvine Brisbane, Australia.
Hi Lorraine Thank you for this information! Maybe some of these people, will lead me to the reason Isabella and her father were in Urray. My grandfather,s family showed up on the 1891 census for Urray, before that they were in Fearn,ROC. Thanks to some nice people on this mailing list, I have now got some information on Andrews ancestor,s, including his grandparents and g.grandparents. I do have Andrews birth certificate, unfortunetaly there is no mention of a father. I have also wondered if Andrew was a home child, he rarely talked about is mother but when he did , it was not nice. I did contact the Quarrier Home, they did have a Andrew MacKay but he did not match the information I gave them. I do not know if there were any other homes in Scotland that sent children to other countries. Unfortunetaly until the 1901 census comes out, I will not be able to track his families movement and to see who he was living with at the time, my grandfather always said he came from Inverness. Thank you again for this information, I have wondered why Andrew's mother, Isabella b.1863 in Fearn and her father Andrew b.1832 in Kilmuir Easter, left Fearn after around 40 years there. Thanks Again Robin --- espencer <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Robin: > > I don't know if this will help you with your Andrew > MacKay but these > are all the MacKay's on the 1881 Census in Urray. > There were no > Isabella's but I have also attached the full family > for 2 Bella's. > As he was only age 12, could he have left Scotland > as a Home Child. > Have you ordered his Birth Cert and does it have a > fathers name. > Hope some of this helps. Hi, Speaking of MacKays, does anyone have a connection to Duncan MacKAY m Margaret Hossack 1861 in Aberfeldy, Perthshire and their son Peter MacKay b 1861? Susan
Hi Robin: I don't know if this will help you with your Andrew MacKay but these are all the MacKay's on the 1881 Census in Urray. There were no Isabella's but I have also attached the full family for 2 Bella's. As he was only age 12, could he have left Scotland as a Home Child. Have you ordered his Birth Cert and does it have a fathers name. Hope some of this helps. Good Luck Lorraine Ottawa, Canada MACKAY, Margt. Hello there Natasha, Donald is indeed right about Molly Akers book on Macraes to New Zealand. If you are a Macrae descendant and your folk ended up in N.Z they will be there somewhere. Some of mine came direct from Scotland and my husbands came via Nova Scotia-but they will be there somewhere.!!good luck. Maureen Finlayson. Orewa New Zealand

Suzanne, According to the Philemore Atlas of Parish Registers, 1804 is as old as the registers for Kincardine, Ross and Cromarty get. Sorry. Marleen Van Horne
Hi Everyone I thought since I had been off list for the last three months, I should re Introduce myself. My name is Robin, my surnames include Cameron,Gibson,MacKay/McKay and Munro. The ancestors that are my brickwalls are, my g.g.g.grandfather William MacKay b. circa 1805 in Edderton and another g.g.g.grandfather Donald Gibson b.circa 1788 possibly in ROC. He is actually reported to be born in Sutherland, but I have found no Donald Gibson born there in that time period. My major brickwall is finding siblings and a father for, my grandfather Andrew MacKay. Andrew was born July 1 1891 in Balnain,Urray to Isabella MacKay, he left Scotland in approx:1903, I have know idea what happened to his mother after that. I have the book "The Highlanders of Waipu" - I haven't been following your queries but in the lists given, of emigrants from Nova Scotia to New Zealand - 1851, 1852, 1860, several MacRaes are mentioned, if these are of interest. Lilian

I have been tracing the family of WILLIAM SUTHERLAND and ALEXANDRINA ROSS in Ontario Canada. I would be interested in exchanging information with anyone who has information on the Scottish connection. William and Alexandrina had three children born in Scotland between 1826 and 1830, ALEXANDER Sutherland c in Kilmuir Easter, Ross and Cromarty, DAVID ROSS Sutherland c 1827 in Sutherland, and ANGUS Sutherland c in Proncy, Dornoch, Sutherland. They had five children born in Canada between 1833 and 1843, JAMES, ANGUS, JOHN, DONALD and MARGARET, all born in Ramsey, Lanark , Ontario I believe that I have information on this family but I would be interested in details on the family before their emigration to Canada. I will acknowledge all replies. I have one of the descendants visiting me this coming week and would like to add to the information I have for her. If my hunches are correct, this William would be her gggrandfather and her first clue as to the origins of her family. May Garson in Ottawa, Canada
Would anyone have any information on a SUTHERLAND family living in Kincardine,Rosshire early 1700's... possibly a Angus SUTHERLAND who may have been a tacksman in Kincardine? any information no matter how small is appreciated. Theresa.
