    1. [ROSS-L] Re: ROSS-D Digest V00 #189
    2. Noel, this is a very long shot, but I have a couple (literally a couple, just two of them!) of Rosses in the same general area as your Rosses, although in a different time period. What makes me think that there could be a long-ago connection is the given names of your Ross men. This is what I have" Jane ROSS, b ca1740-45, marr William ROBERTSON, b ca 1735 @ Monymusk, Aberdeenshire. Jane was the d/o Alexander ROSS of Balnagowen, Aberdeenshire. The son of William & Jane (Ross) ROBERTSON, Archibald ROBERTSON, came to America, arriving in NYC in Oct of 1791, where he marr Eliza ABRAMSE. So, as you can see, I'm pinning my hopes on the given name Alexander! Do you think the name could have been used in your ROSS family, down through several generations? (I do know that it's done, at least in some Scottish families, as the surname Robertson has been used at least since the late 1700's, until the present day. It was my father's first name, and it's now my younger son's first name.) I know that I'm grabbing at straws, but I've been stuck in the same spot on these two families for 20 years! I'm entitled to grab! Seriously, though, if you learn more of your ROSSes in earlier years, and you think there could be a connection with the Robertsons, I'd really appreciate it a lot if you'd let me know. Thanks for "listening". Barbara in MO
