Hi List, I'm troubled by a message, through the list, regarding Richard's new website < http://clanrossiowa.us/ > for his Ross research project. For some reason, Richard linked to my Ross research data without permission and without providing credit for my work. He is also using a very old like to my site that I've not used in many years. I tried to contact Richard at his "contact us" link, but it only goes to a "gmail" form. Richard, please contact me! ~~~Pam Outgoing mail scanned by Norton Antivirus 2005
I would encourage you not to be troubled as cross-linking is quite common. There is no requirement for one website to gain permission before linking to another, just as a library doesn't have to tell an author that they have acquired her book. Your website is published and anyone could find it by searching. Richard has merely provided a pointer. Once at your site, your research speaks for itself. You don't specify which pages are yours so I can't comment specifically on them. Are they out-of-date? Should they be removed? Richard's email address for this list is richard.ross1@mchsi.com The contact us" email address that I saw was clanross5@hotmail.com I suspect you could write to him privately at either address. Pam, I was providing a link to your information as a way for others to find other Ross Researchers and Information. Regarding the email link on the page, I will take a look at that because I thought I had coded the link properly. If you tell me where the link is at on my website I will update it so that others don't think it is my research. Sorry for the confusion. Will correct as soon as tomorrow once I know where the problem is. When I use the "contact us" link on this site I get richard.ross1@mchsi.com. I have e-mailed Richard at this address with no problems. I think this person is just trying to put all the information together in an easy to access format. I really don't think he is trying to "steal" information from anyone to resell it or use it for profit. Some of the e-mails sent through this list have been kind of rude. It is very difficult and time-consuming to build a web page like this and I say bravo for doing it. If you don't want to participate, then don't. By the way, if something is posted on the internet, I don't believe that anyone needs permission to link to it from their site. It is out there for the world to see. I am pretty positive that if he is using an old link, once he is contacted, he will fix the mistake. I am not sure which site he is linking to that is yours, but if your are not being given credit for it, then make sure your name is on your webpage so people who access the page from any link know who has created the information. Richard, thank you again for doing this, I appreciate it as do many others.
