I just read your letter to the Ross list, and I really wish that I could help you. But I can't, doggone it! My only Ross, after about 27 or more years of searching, is Jane Ross, b 1738 (no pob), and d bef 9 Mar 1811. She was the d/o Alexander Ross and his unkn. (to me, at least!). He's always referred to as Alexander of Balnagowen/Balnagowan. She married William ROBERTSON, b 1732, presumably in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, Sct. William d in Juneof 1811 (pod unkn). They had six children that I know of, although one is "Unknown". 1) Archibald*, b 8 May 1765 @ Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, Sct., and d 5 April 1835 in New York City. 2) Alexander, b prob a year or two after Archibald , and he d 27 May 1841. He marr Janet McLaren (no info at all on her). 3) Andrew, b 14 Oct., 1777 @ Aberdeenshire, d 6 Dec 1845 @ Hampstead, London, Eng. He marr Unkn. Boxsall. All I have on her is that she died in 1864. One daughter, Emily, who never married and lived "to a very great age, and resided at Hampton, Eng. Now you as much about my Ross's as I do! If you've run across any of these people in your own research, I'd really love to hear about it. The Robertson surname has remained in use through all the in-between generations: My father was Robertson Lispenard Cleveland, his uncle was Robertson Miller, and my younger son is Robertson Cleveland Cofer. To say that I'm really frustrated with this family is the understatement of the year. If you have even a crumb of info about any of these people, it would be great. I know just about everything about Archibald after he came to America, but really zilch about him before then. If I don't find info about him before my time is up, there will be (assuming that I get to the same place he got to), there's going to be some serious finger-wagging under at least two Scottish gentlemen (the other is whichever of my Armstrongs came to America first). They could at least have left a little bit of a paper trail relating to their life before that! Thanks for listenin, and I'd be grateful for the smallest crumb of info, or any new suggestions on what my next step should be. Regards, Barbara
