Hello Tom, I have a wad of prints from this list and others concerning Andrew Ross, David Ross of Balblair, Rev. George Aeneas Ross, Lt / Francis Ross, Esther Carruthers,Robert Montgomery Ross and Charles Baine Hodgeson Ross but I would hesitate to link them as there are so many variations. I only suspect a link with our line from Milntown,Kilmuir Easter since Rev Dr Gustavos Aird wrote in 1863 that we were of Ferquhard's line but that may simply have been his opinion or impression..There was an entire family of Montgomeries in the village by the mid 1700s and every croft and farm seemed to be tenanted by Rosses all having children baptised with the same two or three christian names.We have an Andrew moving toIreland as late as the mid 1800s long after any political urgency so perhaps the route was familiar by then. Some serious ferreting in the Records Office may shed light through estate records etc. Do we have a Ross cousin in Edinburgh with a long weekend to spare? Keep chipping away! Frances.
