My maternal g-grandmother is Mary Ross, daughter of John Wesley Ross (1812 - 1855), son of Jacob Ross, so I am unable to contribute to the y-chromosome study. However, perhaps you can help me. I know nothing of Jacob Ross, except that his wife was certainly Methodist! Is he the Jacob, one of the 6 sons of James Ross of Stoneycreek Twp (c1734-1801) referred to in your Ross-List posting? I have 3 John Wesley's in my PA ROSS line. First one born 1837, strange thing is that the other two are not in the same direct line. I also have Sterling's in several different branches, was there a special reason for parents to name their son's Wesley and Sterling's? My ROSS line were pioneer settlers of Scranton which was know as Slocum Hollow when they first settled there. Where they came from before then is a mystery.
