    1. Re: ROSS-D Digest V05 #33
    2. Hi, Audrey, When I first read your message about your Ross ancestors in NC, I thought there couldn't be a connection that either of us would know about, mostly because of the big time gap between your Rosses, and mine. I only know of about three in my line: Jane Ross, b ca 1738 @ Scotl, and d bef 9 Mar 1811. She was d/o Alexander of Balnagowan/Balnagowen, and unkn. spouse. Jane marr William ROBERTSON, b ca 1732 @ Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, Sct. I have never been able to find out William's mother, but his father was James Robertson, b ca 1705 @ Drumnahoy, Aberdeenshire. James was s/o Sir Archibald Robertson, b ca 1640/50. He was a lineal descendant of Baron Alexander ROBERTSON, Viscount of STRUAN/STROWAN. The Baron was a Jacobite supporter. He escaped to France after the Battle of Killicrankie, and returned after the accession to the throne of Queen Anne. His literary pursuits included writing poetry. Beyond this, I have no other info on "my" Archibald Robertson's ancestors, but am doing my best to find some! If you think there may be connection here, I'd love to hear from you! Barbara P.S. The name of Robertson is still in use on our side of the family: My father's first name was Robertson, and that's also the first name of my younger son. And, since starting seriously into this genealogy hobby (which is not really a hobby at all, but an obsession!), I found (or I should say, was found by), a first cousin once removed, whose first name also is Robertson. Once we started corresponding, we discovered that his grandfather and my grandmother were brother and sister! I'd heard of his grandfather when I was a small child because he was my father's favorite uncle, although he lived in NC (that just hit me... NC is where your Ross family was...I wonder if some of the Rosses and Robertsons came over together?!?! I know that Archibald (the oldest son) came first, in 1791, and his brother Alexander came about a year or so later. But I would think it's very possible that some of the Rosses also came to America, and to NC if they already had relatives there. I'd love to learn about them...right now they're just a few names on my charts. Hoping to hear from you! Barbara in MO (but originally from NYC)
