    3. Hello all, I am researching my father's family,I wonder if anoyone here might have information on the same folks. James Madison Ross (my father) b.1922 Ohio,d.2002 Ohio. {James Madison Ross (my grandfather) b.abt 1890 Virginia d.abt.1970 Butler County,Ohio. Gladys Indiola (Brown) Ross (grandmother) b.abt 1897 Ohio d.abt.1936 Butler Co,Ohio} I have seen in the 1920 Federal census that James was listed a s a lodger with Glady's grandmother(Sarah Simson)-and that Gladys was living nearby with her mother and step father,Rose and Henry Purcell) in Ohio,so I suppose that is how they met. My grandfather had a sister named Ida Rose(?) Ross b.abt1883, who later married a man by the last name of Carter or Carder. She lived in Cincinnati,Ohio before she died. My grandfather's mother was Laura(Roberts?) Ross, born in Virginia(somewhere in Grayson or closely surrounding counties) but I am not sure if she is the Laura married to James M.Ross in the 1880 census(Virginia) or not. If anyone else might know of this family, please help..I lose track Laura in 1890(after James and Ida were born) and then I can't find James or Ida around 1910. I would like to find out who my greatgrandfather actually was. Thanks, Liza Ross --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business - Try our new resources site!

    3. While I'm sharing. This was not easy to find, but answered a lot of questions that have haunted my family (I'm Silas' Great-Grandson) for years. Franklin L. Ross Anyone researching these families please contact me at: alamokr2@yahoo.com Thank you Ft. Scott is in Bourbon County, extreme eastern border of Kansas. The Fort Scott Tribune, Nov 3, 1997 Other Years by Nell Dikeman 100 YEARS AGO (1897) What may result in a fatal accident occurred near Uniontown yesterday. As several persons were leaving the city in wagons, they started to race and the wagon in which Silas Ross, who lives five miles west of Uniontown, was seated, struck a stump and was overturned and Ross was thrown out. He was seriously injured, but whether it will result fatally is not known. The accident occurred two miles west of Uniontown. The Fort Scott Tribune Friday, November 5, 1897, A FATAL ACCIDENT. Silas Ross of Uniontown Injured in a Runaway Election Day, Which Resulted in Death. Silas Ross, a farmer who resided south of Uniontown, and an old resident in Bourbon county, who was thrown from a wagon last Tuesday while returning from Uniontown, and badly hurt died of his injuries Wednesday night and was buried in the Uniontown cemetery yesterday afternoon. Mr. Ross and another man were running a race when the accident occurred and were not intoxicated as was first reported. His wagon struck a stump, throwing him out, falling head first upon a post and cutting a long deep gash in his head. He was removed to his home and a doctor called to take charge of the case. It was found that his skull was crushed causing concussion of the brain in addition to the deep gash already mentioned. Everything possible was done to relieve the injured man from his intense suffering and his case was pronounced fatal. He ralied until the following day when life expired. The deceased was about 37 years old and leaves two children. Hulda Ross Copied from card in Ft Scott Historical and Genealogical library. News articles copied and pasted on 3x5 card. MRS. HULDA ROSS DEAD. Former Xenia Resident Died Yesterday at State Hospital. Mrs. Hulda Ross, 72, widow of the late Silas Ross, died at the state hospital at Osawatomie, Kas., yesterday. She was an old and highly respected resident of the Xenia neighborhood. The body was brought here yesterday and lies in state at the Cheney chapel. Awaiting arrival of relatives from Virginia, funeral plans have not been completed. However, the service will probably be held Sunday. Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling cemetery. HULDA ROSS RITES. Many attended Services at Mt. Sterling Cemetery. Many sympathizing friends and neighbors gathered at the Mount Sterling cemetery yesterday afternoon at 2 oclock to pay their last tribute of love and respect at the funeral of Mrs. Hulda Ross. Rev. R. D. Deirdorf, pastor of the Federated churches of Blue Mound, conducted the services. He took his text and Scripture lesson from the 23rd Psalm. His remarks were very appropriate and comforting. A gorgeous block of yellow and white mums and pink roses covered the casket. The pallbearers were Lloyd Ross, Charles Williams, Caldwell Davis, Jr., Tom Bray, William Ross and G.R. Abbey. Two sons, A. G. Ross of Clarenden, Va., and J. W. Ross of Iola, were here for the services. Out-of-town friends here for the services included J. W. Boatright, Joe, Kathryn, Evelyn and Wilma Boatright, and Alan Emerick, all of Garland. Note: the text is copied exactly as written as much as possible and has been double-checked for errors. The mistaken A.G. Ross should be O.G. her son, Oscar Galen, of Clarenden, VA., who was married to Gladys Boatwright. Alan Emerick, is Alma Emerick, Note: The 3x5 card had the following inscription typed at the top: Ross, Hulda Nov.29, 1934 (Mt. Sterling Cemetery) Boulware The cemetery is now called Boulware but has been called Boulder and was referred to as Xenia cemetery in the obituary for Huldas grandfather, Daniel B. Holeman, also buried there. The land was owned by Mark Boulware, who is buried there, but was originally owned by Daniel B. Holeman (b. 1808). THE IOLA DAILY REGISTER, SATURDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 8, 1934 Page Three WAVERLY Mr. W. J. Ross and family spent Thursday with his parents J. Ross, Kincaid. (Note: J. Ross is Jeremiah, younger brother of Silas Ross) Mr. Oscar Ross and son of Clarendon, Va., were dinner guests at the W. J. Ross home Saturday. (Note: Oscar is son of Silas, cousin of W. J. Ross) Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ross attended the funeral of Mrs. Hulda Ross Sunday afternoon. The Ross children spent Sunday afternoon at M. A. Smiths. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 2. F Ross
    3. FYI - tho't I'd share this, especially as it might be difficult to find with his name given as Michael instead of Mitchell. Wonder how many times that happened to him? It IS Mitchell's obit. Franklin Ross Signs of the Times pp: 276 Died At his residence in Warren Co., Ill., Michael Ross. He was born in the state of Delaware, March 20, 1797, and died the last day of June, 1873, of consumption and old age, seemingly without much suffering. He joined the Baptists in Johnson County, Indiana, about forty-five years ago, and was a faithful and consistent member until he was called up higher. He died a member of New Hope Church, where he was a member for many years. Thus has fallen an old soldier of the cross who was always ready to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints. He leaves four sons and one daughter, besides many grand-children, and one great-grand-child, together with his second wife and the church, to mourn his absence. His funeral sermon was preached by the writer, on the 1st day of July, from 2 Cor. V. 4, last clause. R. M. SIMMONS __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! URL: http://www.ttarchive.org TITLE: Texas Transportation Archive DESCRIPTION: The Texas Transportation Archive Employee Database Project attempts to “reconstruct” missing or destroyed employee records for railroad companies, steamboat lines, stage coach lines, etc. The database currently has records on approximately 10,000 individuals who were employed by transportation companies or companies that operated their own transportation departments, such as logging and mining companies. These records provide information on employee duties, years worked, vital information, sources of obituaries, etc. The Employee Database covers every region of Texas, and is continually being expanded.
