Hi, Audrey, When I first read your message about your Ross ancestors in NC, I thought there couldn't be a connection that either of us would know about, mostly because of the big time gap between your Rosses, and mine. I only know of about three in my line: Jane Ross, b ca 1738 @ Scotl, and d bef 9 Mar 1811. She was d/o Alexander of Balnagowan/Balnagowen, and unkn. spouse. Jane marr William ROBERTSON, b ca 1732 @ Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, Sct. I have never been able to find out William's mother, but his father was James Robertson, b ca 1705 @ Drumnahoy, Aberdeenshire. James was s/o Sir Archibald Robertson, b ca 1640/50. He was a lineal descendant of Baron Alexander ROBERTSON, Viscount of STRUAN/STROWAN. The Baron was a Jacobite supporter. He escaped to France after the Battle of Killicrankie, and returned after the accession to the throne of Queen Anne. His literary pursuits included writing poetry. Beyond this, I have no other info on "my" Archibald Robertson's ancestors, but am doing my best to find some! If you think there may be connection here, I'd love to hear from you! Barbara P.S. The name of Robertson is still in use on our side of the family: My father's first name was Robertson, and that's also the first name of my younger son. And, since starting seriously into this genealogy hobby (which is not really a hobby at all, but an obsession!), I found (or I should say, was found by), a first cousin once removed, whose first name also is Robertson. Once we started corresponding, we discovered that his grandfather and my grandmother were brother and sister! I'd heard of his grandfather when I was a small child because he was my father's favorite uncle, although he lived in NC (that just hit me... NC is where your Ross family was...I wonder if some of the Rosses and Robertsons came over together?!?! I know that Archibald (the oldest son) came first, in 1791, and his brother Alexander came about a year or so later. But I would think it's very possible that some of the Rosses also came to America, and to NC if they already had relatives there. I'd love to learn about them...right now they're just a few names on my charts. Hoping to hear from you! Barbara in MO (but originally from NYC)

I am looking for information on Daniel Ross, the father of Chief John Ross. I am trying to find siblings and parents of Daniel Ross. Any one having any information on them, it would be appreciated. Pat
Hello all, My g-grandfather was Burris Ross and I continue to have no luck in finding information about his birth, parents and siblings. He lived in southeastern Indiana and I have pretty complete data on his two wives and four children. Due to different timing/locations, he was counted twice in the 1850 census. His fourth child, Ambrose S. Ross, was born to Margaret Dooly in 1856. Margaret Dooly remarried, May 3, 1860, so I'm assuming Burris died between 1856 and 1860, in either Crawford or Orange County, IN. If anyone has any information about his death, specific place of birth, parents or siblings, (or, other advice for me), I would very much appreciate hearing from you! Take care, Michael

I have tried to find a connection on this site for a few years for Mary Callison and James Ross who married 1837 in Delaware County, Indiana. Thanks to some data bases on Delaware Co. GENWEB I found that the couple filed for divorce in 1842- although I could find nothing to say that it was ever granted-- and that there were two minor children from this marrige so if anyone has any female ROSS children, with no parents, born October 1838 or October 1839 in Indiana, please let me know. Thanks a bunch. Marilyn

Be sure to check each letter of the alphabet... http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Rg/frameset_rhelps.asp ....and finally, here's the form for finding information on your ancestors.... http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp Best of luck!! Hello list members, This cemetery location may be common knowledge but, during a recent visit to Grand Lakes, Kentucky, we came across a very small cemetery where Ross was the predominant name on headstones. Specific names observed were: Henry M. Ross, 1849-1922; Mary F. Ross, 1855-1932; Ruben, 1880-1906; Clarissa, 1883-1902; Bobbie, wife of G.A. Ross, 1882-1922; other stones with names that were unreadable. I have digital photos of the above headstones as well as GPS coordinates for the cemetery. If you are interested, contact me directly via email. Hello list members, 01 Mar 1845 Liberty Twp., Big Springs, Crawford, Indiana; Isaac Ross entered into an agreement with one Joseph Ross of Hardin Co., state of Illinois, for the sale of personal property, the value of which was $75, including one gray mare, a bookcase, four beds, several hand tools, eight head of sheep, a kettle, dutch oven, and other items. Isaac was the grantor, Joseph the grantee. Then Isaac, who apparently owed to Joseph the $75, assigned it to him. The deal was recorded by E. E. Morgan, RCC, Crawford County, Indiana. I am interested in any information that may be available on the above mentioned Joseph Ross or Isaac Ross. Joseph could have been Isaac's father, brother, or son??? Or maybe not related. Thanks in advance. Here's hoping! Hello, Listers, I have an Orma Reed (Ross), whose father, apparently, was Roy E. Reed, d. July 28, 1915, and whose husband, William Clarence Ross, d. November 27, 1944. All are buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, at Section 50, Lot 159, www.crownhill.org. Father-in-law and mother-in-law to Orma were Ambrose S. Ross and Sarah Emma Self (Ross), respectively. Ambrose's father and mother were Burris Ross and Margaret Dooly (Ross), respectively. Husband, William Clarence Ross, was employed as pattern maker at GM Delco plant near Indianapolis and the couple resided in Anderson, IN. Interested in anyone who has any connecting links to this family. Especially interested in tracing "Ross" lineage. Thank you. Take care, Michael
