Hello researchers, I am interested in hearing from other descendants of James ROSS of Stoneycreek Twp (c1734-1801) A male ROSS cousin of mine consented to sending his DNA for family research analysis and so far it does not connect with any other ROSS lines in their database. Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com) suggests obtaining samples from several more direct male descendants of James through his other sons in order to identify the specific markers for this line of ROSSes. Our lineage is from James through Adam, then Nathan, Oliver, and Blaine. We would, then, be talking about samples from a male directly descended by male lineage through sons other than Adam namely Michael, John, George, Jacob, or Joseph. Please assure any prospective donor that they do not have to donate blood; a sampling is adequately made from scrapings of the oral cavity, i.e. the inside of the cheeks. I do have the recent ancestral origins and the other results of the DNA testing. My Duncan Ross was born in Canada and his parents, John Ross and Agnes Rankin (daughter of Donald Rankin of Glencoe, Scotland & Ann McMaster) most likely arrived in Canada from Scotland between May 1831 and October 1832. Duncan's older sister Elizabeth was my g-grandmother. I'm afraid I have little information on my Ross ancestry prior to their arrival in Huntingdon County. All I know of John Ross is that he was born abt. 1794 and was a native of Ross-shire Scotland. I know nothing of his family. If you find a more direct connection, please let me know. Hello everyone, Surprise! The Y-DNA of my Isaac Ross, Sr. of NC, matches that of George Ross, Sr. of CT/NJ. Am trying to connect the two families and would like anyone from either of the families who is interested in pursuing paper trails to correspond with me. George Ross, Sr. is thought to have been an indentured servant at the Saugus Mine Works in MA (1651-1658). I have so far not found proof of that though there are references to a letter by Rev. John Cotton to Oliver Cromwell, 1651, given as evidence. I have not seen that letter and would ask anyone who has a copy to provide a transcript. From what I have otherwise gleaned, it looks like the letter was just a letter telling Cromwell that the indentured servants were being treated well. Have not found any proof of a specific reference to George Ross in the letter. There is no question that George Ross, Sr. was in CT (1657 ca. 1670 ) and NJ (1670-1705), but my question is when and how he arrived in the US? Perhaps he came as said but perhaps earlier and under different circumstances. Seems to me that we just don´t know. So, I need someone who would like to exchange ideas with me and who is critical of the accepted story. Would also like to encourage all of you Ross men, to do the Y-DNA testing, as it can help us in determining our ancestry. Thanks, Linda
