    2. My maternal g-grandmother is Mary Ross, daughter of John Wesley Ross (1812 - 1855), son of Jacob Ross, so I am unable to contribute to the y-chromosome study. However, perhaps you can help me. I know nothing of Jacob Ross, except that his wife was certainly Methodist! Is he the Jacob, one of the 6 sons of James Ross of Stoneycreek Twp (c1734-1801) referred to in your Ross-List posting? Is there a published family history for James Ross of Stoneycreek Twp? Thank you, Paul Peak

    3. Thank you for the link. I definitely am not connected to this ROSS line after viewing the site. Logan County did respond and I also found that the John H. Ross I was looking at married Margaret Wilson in 1838 Hardin County, OH. No probate found for John and Margaret disappeared or remarried by the time the 1850 Census was taken. Since their son was born after 1838, I believe my Sullivan is not their son, as he was born either 1836 or 1837. Since he was living with a widow named Elizabeth, wife of David Ross, I guess it is safe to say he appears to be their child, although the census does not reflect a relationship to the head of the household. I did find other probate for my James Young Ross which may be helpful in the end with that family. Thanks again. I emailed the Logan County Genealogical Society in the hopes that they have some probate for a John H Ross who died 21 Aug 1844 in Logan Co, presumably. They may not have the probate, but according to the 1840 Census he had a son born 1835-1840 and a wife, so one would think that there should be a will or some sort of court documents. I am trying to prove or disprove that my Sullivan born abt 1836 (between 1835-1840 in 1840) is the son of John H. and an unknown wife. In 1850 Sullivan was living with A. H., George H., and a woman named Elizabeth born about 1794 PA. Since the census does not list a relationship, you can see my problem. One could assume Sullivan is the son of this Elizabeth and brother to Andrew H. (A.H.), and George H. Richard Ross

    3. I seem to have hit a brick wall while researching my gggrandfather Archibald P. Ross b abt 1804 in NY. I found him in Mexico, Oswego County, NY in 1840. He was married but I have no name for his wife. He had, as best I can figure, 4 children by this marriage. Huldah F b. about 1827 John M b. about 1830 Gilbert M. b. about 1833 Albert M b. about 1837 These children were born in NY as best as I can determine Apparently the unknown wife died and he married Betesy M. surname unknown b. abt 1819 in NY and they had the following children. Frances M. F b. 20 Sept. 1843 in NY (my ggrandmother)m. James C. Lemon 1862 in Wis. Franklin M. M b. abt 1845 in NY Apparently after Franklin was born they all moved to Mt. Pleasant, Green County, Wisconsin. I do have the land records for Archibald in Wisconsin. The following children were born: Julia (Juliette)F. B about 1847 in Wisconsin Lydia F. b abt 1849 Wisconsin Harriett F. b. abt 1854 in Wisconsin In the census reports I could only find Archibald to the 1860 but did find Betsey M in the 1870 census married to Elijah Roby with Harriett living with them. I can not find any death/burial records for Archibald. Also I do not know who his parents were. Is there anyone who has this Ross line and could help me with my brick wall. Thank You Sue Gill sue.gill@sbcglobal.net

    3. Although I know much about the Burris Ross family of Crawford and Orange Counties, IN, circa 1850's, (i.e.. two wives and four children), I still know little about his specific time/place of birth or death and parents/siblings. If anyone is tracing this line, or has such information, I will be happy to share what I've got and sources already explored. Thanks a lot! Michael

    3. To Hal Ross, It looks like the only thing we have to go on is the fact that our William Rosses had the same names and were born the same year (1820). We always assumed (which is not a word to be used in genealogy) that the Rosses came from Scotland, but by way of Italy, who knows? It sounds too far fetched for there to be a connection. Was your William's middle name Pennel? Robert C.'s wife Wealthy Smith was from the Berk- shires of NY. And did your Ross family settle in West Philadelphia? That is really all I know about this part of my family. Thanks for you input, Susan Ross Clark

    1. [ROSS] Ancestors of Donald Ross (born Kincardine in Ross-Shire 12 November 1821)
    2. Dominic Munro
    3. Hi I'm searching for the ancestors of Donald Ross (born Kincardine in Ross-Shire 12 November 1821 and married Isabella Aird). I believe that Donald was the son of Alexander Ross and Ann Munro. The 1841 census shows this couple living in Kincardine - Dounie or Dunie - with a son called Donald - but unfortunately the age of the Donald in the census (15 in 1841) doesn't quite tally with the birth date given above. I believe, further, that Alexander Ross's father was another Donald Ross who married "an Irish woman". This information comes from a family tree my grandfather prepared some time ago. Very grateful if anyone could shed any light on these folk. Thanks very much, Dominic Munro Edinburgh
