    3. Hi Pete, just came across your note and will pass on this info that I found on Francis' death certificate in Princeton, IN. it gives his place of birth as NC, nothing about his mother. It may or may not be correct as I have found many errors on both birth and death certificates. 3. Hi John Ross, I am Mr. ROSS's cousin Jean. My ancestors are all from PA from the 1700s but descendants went to other states, some to KS, to VA, to AZ, CA etc. Among your other names listed the only one looking familar is BURKHART. Christopher BURKET was a Revolutionary War soldier who moved to PA from NJ and married Mary Ann ROSS, daughter of James. I will check your web sit and also keep your name on hand in the event I come across any clues. Cordially, Jean Hudson Masco

    1. [ROSS] John Wesley and Sterling
    2. Frank Ross
    3. John Wesley was the theologian who, basically, was responsible for the church that became the Methodist Church. He died in 1791. Many of our ancestors were named for people who were famous or well thought-of in their time. Like kids today who are named "Elvis" or "Brittany" or their derivatives. "Sterling" is used in English for "strong, firm or immovable," or "of the highest quality." Franklin Ross (named for a relative who was probably named for Benjamin Franklin, not Franklin Delano Roosevelt) lclevers <lclevers@cfl.rr.com> wrote: I have 3 John Wesley's in my PA ROSS line. First one born 1837, strange thing is that the other two are not in the same direct line. I also have Sterling's in several different branches, was there a special reason for parents to name their son's Wesley and Sterling's? My ROSS line were pioneer settlers of Scranton which was know as Slocum Hollow when they first settled there. Where they came from before then is a mystery. Do any you with New Jersey ROSS connections recognize this couple? I would appreciate ANY scrap of evidence. The above Noah was NOT the son of Abraham CLARK, signer of the Declaration of Independence. 3. As like any information you find please document information even if you find it in a book. Mr. Robert Ross and I have been in contact quite a lot of the pass few years. There were parts of my Ross line that were incorrect in the first edition of Mr. Ross's book. We're all human and mistakes will be made. So please make sure you document any information you find. 1. Re: [ROSS] ROSS in NC and SC and NC
    2. Hello All, I am still hoping to discover where my Reuben Ross and his father-in-law, Isaac Green, came to the Carolinas from. Reuben Ross is in Halifax Co, North Carolina in 1759 through 1761 then disappears until he shows up in as a neighbor in 1771 in what was then St. Mark's Parish of Craven County, South Carolina (later called Old Sumter District and still later called Clarendon Co, SC). Reuben is apparently dead sometime before his last child was born in 1776 in SC. Reuben married Priscilla Green about 1761 and their first child was born in 1762. Priscilla was named in her father, Isaac Green's 1769 South Carolina will as daughter Priscilla Ross. The first property record for Isaac in SC was 1771. He seems to have been in NC in 1759. 3. Good luck. For anyone whose ROSS came from Somerset County or is connected to the family THE ANCESTORS AND DESCENDANTS OF HERMAN AND CATHERINE LOWRY ROSS by Mary Pyle Palmer is an excellent investment. Not only does it have the records described, but many quality pictures as well. It's a compilation of many years of meticulous research.
