    1. Re: [ROSS-L] Status Report on Nation-Extreme Wide David ROSS manhunt
    2. Peter I, too, have had a lot of fun inspecting the bowl of spaghetti called ROSS. Trying to differentiate between all of the different ROSS families is about as easy as pulling out a toenail. I have found one Ross line from Canada, originally from England, Ireland and Scotland. I have found another group of the same name floating in from England to the Boston area, and another into the Carolinas and Virginia area. It seems that most of them have the same names, same birth dates and close dates of marriages. but alas and alack, none are related!!! Ain't we got fun??? James Thomas Ross b in Blount Co., TN must not have had any parents. There are other James Thomas Rosses, but they were born in KY, SC, NC and other seaports. My line does not show to have anyone named David, so that must be another group. KEEP DIGGING. and don't fret the big stuff, it is the small stuff that builds up to be the biggie. Best wishes and blessings. Henry

    2. Donna: I about jumped out of my chair when I saw James Thomas Ross. Bue alas and alack, my James Thomas Ross was born 25 Nov 1808 in Blount Co, TN. m. Sarah (Sally) Cook 26 Jan 1833 in Blount Co TN. Then I saw your signature, we corresponded several years ago and decided we may or may not be related, probably not. However, there are too many coincidences in our Ross bowl of spaghetti to close out the file. So I will keep your query in the open file. Does anyone else have a James Thomas Ross in your file?? Best Wishes and blessings Henry Lawrence.

Dr. Holland wrote several books. John Ross took his mother's name of Ross. Something happened to his parents, and he was raised by a family whose name was Meeks or Meigs. He somehow got to Pope Co. 3. Hi All, HELP!! Reuben J. Ross married Mrs. Nancy A. Cazy (Casey) in Cooper Co. MO in 1860. She was Nancy A. Snodgrass who was first wife of A. Casey. I know that Nancy's family was from Cedar Co., Stockton. Also, Reuben and Nancy are found on the 1870 Cedar Co. census. Reuben and Nancy had three boys, George Emory, James Thomas and Joseph Walter. The boys and thier descendants have also been found in Boone at one time or another. Some of George's family went to Kansas. James Thomas and his famliy (if any) can not be located. Joseph Walter is my great grandfather. I know that Reuben had a sister named Elizabeth A. Ross who married Irvin Powell in Cooper Co. Reuben and Nancy wind up back in Cooper Co. on the 1880 census. They also raised thier niece, Mary Powell, from age 3 after the death of her parents. WHO ARE REUBEN AND ELIZABETH ROSS' PARENTS?? Did Reuben go by his middle name? which begins with a J. and is that why I can't find him? Reuben was b.abt. 1842, census records say MO. Census say his father was from TN and mother from AL. WHERE DID JAMES THOMAS ROSS GO?? Can't find Reuben's death date or burial place. Family story says that he died on his way to moving......someplace. Family story says he is buried in Henry Co. ANYONE?? Thanks Julie _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html

    1. [ROSS-L] Alexander ROSS
    2. I found the following message in the Rootsweb Archives and was wondering if that Alexander ROSS is the one who married Catherine CHAMBERS. Their daughter Mary married John LITTLER. From: A GENEALOGY OF THE NESBIT, ROSS, PORTER, TAGGART FAMILIES of Pennsylvania by Blanche T. Hartman, privately printed, Pittsburgh, PA 1929.  Page 48 ". . . Frequent riots occurred and arrests swelled the prisons to overflowing with the persons of the boldest and most intrepid leaders, many of whom, while absolutely deprived of their patrimonies by the state, were granted their personal liberty upon promise to emigrate to distant lands. Pennsylvania had her quota of these exiles, some of whom were sold into slavery in the colonies.- William ROSS, who joined the exodus from Scotland of 1749 and became the forbearer of the ROSSES of Rossville in York Co., Pa., first - took up his residence in Chester Co., where he lived as a freeman and was taxable in Nantmeal Township in 1753. While there is no particular evidence to prove that he was implicated in the uprising of 1748-9, it is probable that he was in view of the fact that when the struggle for separation from the mother country arose in 1775 he and his three sons espoused the American cause. He was accompanied by his brother Alexander ROSS who had either not seriously antagonized the government or had made his peace with it. He was appointed under the King's seal as commissary clerk or victualler to his majesty's forces in Pennsylvania and Virginia.         In 1761 William ROSS, then of Chester Co., Pa., purchased from his brother-in-law, John NESBIT, executor of the estate of John ACKER, fifty-one acres of land in Warrington Township, York Co. In 1772 he purchased from Jehu THOMAS an adjoining tract of twenty and one-half acres. In May 20, 1774 he received from THOMAS and John PENN, Esquires, a confirmation of a deed to the plantation of "Tipperary" in Warrington Township, York Co., which he had purchased from Jacob AYERS and which had been surveyed for him Mar. 31, 177L Tipperary Plantation was close to the Quaker settlement of Warrington Square, a town whose name was afterwards changed to Rossville in honor of this family. There were many free Quakers here who participated in the struggle for American independence and rallied to the Military muster rounds at Rossville where the Warrington Rangers had their headquarters. 1. [ROSS-L] Just a suggestion to listmembers
    2. Hi all, I am delighted that there are so many Ross researchers out there and glad to see that the amount of email queries on this list has picked up. I would like to suggest (I am not the listowner and I hope the LO doesn't mind my making this suggestion), for the sake of all the listmembers, that we begin to follow a more strict subject line policy. I opened my digest mail today and got a quite a few subject lines that were repeated names, replies, or just simply said Ross on them. It would be helpful to know which Ross you are researching and what time period. It would also be helpful to know where your Ross-kin lived. Something like "Ross, James (1745-1801) Somerset County, PA" would be better than "Looking for my James Ross" or just "James Ross" If your Ross moved from place to place, you can put Ross, James SCT>PA>OH>SC or something like that! Sorry to be such a pain but I get lots of email (as do many of you) and a clearly defined subject line makes it easier to know what the email is about.
