I am lookign for information on the Reubin Ross family from Claiborne County TN. I am especially interested in knowing if anyone has any information on possible servants or slaves he may have had. I am looking for information on James Rose from Claiborne County TN. I have corresponded with other researchers of Reubin and I know James was neither a child nor a grandchild. But since my James had Native American or possibly Melungeon heritage I am checking into the possiblity that James Rose was actually James Ross and chg'd his name. I can not find James on the census for Claiborne County or surrounding counties. Thank you in advance, Sharon

Kasch <[email protected]> To: Ross <[email protected]> Subject: My missing Ross Since everyone is getting on this bandwagon, I shall place my missing Ross on again also. Why not? According to family story, Samuel Ross came to this country with his parents when he was 6 (with or without siblings) on the last ship that left the British Isles/England before the Rev. War began. Great story, but how does one find out what the name of that ship was? I figure that Samuel must have been born @ 1770. Anyhow, he and his parents are supposed to have come to PA. ??? The next time we find him is when he married in 1796 in Bourbon Co., KY to Margaret (Baird) Wasson, a widow with six children. Some people have said that Samuel was also a widower at the time of this marriage. Anyhow, he and Margaret had three sons, William, Thomas and Joseph. Samuel died in Bath Co., KY in May, 1850 and is buried there. I descend from Joseph and I know that his brothers were alive at the time of their father's death because they received their 1/3 share of the estate, but I have never found either of them residing anywhere. Anyhow, that is it. Fini !!! What is it with these Rosses? Why are there so many of them and so many that don't want to be found? Have been working on my genealogical research for 13 years and this one remains lost. It is lightening outside, so goodbye. Julia

May I suggest a most appropriate Vice President running mate? WILLIAM ROSS (of Morgan County, TN) is more qualified than Lieberman or Cheney: 1) Quiet and submissive (especially since his death between 1909-1910) 2) Will not draw attention away from the President 3) Will give his life in the line of duty if necessary (died supporting his family???) 4) The husband of one wife who was wholly devoted to him (wife never remarried) 5) Comes from a pro-family, pro-life, fundamental Christian family Please join us in supporting WILLIAM ROSS for Vice-President. Betsy, Hmmmmm. . . Could be your grandfather and my great-grandfather were dropped from the same planet. I have William Henry Ross, born Sept. 15, 1863 (death certificate, tombstone) in Harpers Valley, West Virginia (Bible in my cousin's possession, which I've never seen). Lived to be 80. He told his kids, etc., that he walked with a wagon train from West-by-God-Virginia when he was 14 -- that would be 1877. Recently, a grandson of his told me William H. was an apprentice quarryman who came to Central Texas to help build the Capitol and other buildings in Austin. William H. Ross was an accomplished carpenter who was ordained a Baptist minister in 1890ish and was the pastor at several Central Texas Baptist churches, included Round Rock's First Baptist in 1904 or so. He married Ada Harris. Their children were Roy Eric, Kate and Grace Mildred. Roy Eric Ross is my grandfather -- one of his daughters is named Betsy May. May for my grandmother Eunice May, Betsy for ?????. My mother's name is a whole 'nother story about going to Alaska. William Henry Ross may have been related to some Central Texas Barrs -- I can't quite get that story straight from the remaining cousins: Bob Barr had a son named Charles and Bob would have been about the same age as our William Henry Ross. (This cousin was about 10 when he met Bob Barr, so who knows.) These Rosses are an elusive bunch, aren't they? Suzy Moehring Mallard Austin, Texas
