Dear Ross Researchers. My brick wall is finding parents, siblings or any information of Joseph F. Ross. Joseph was my husband's grandfather of German descent, emmigration date unk. I only have a window of documentable evidence of 1890-1892 in Portland, Oregon. Joseph F. Ross married Miene (Stein) Kepper widow of John Kepper in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington 17 July 1890 (marriage certificate) though divorce papers state August. They resided in Portland, Oregon in 1890 and possibly had "Ross Flour and Feed Store" located on William (now Rhine) and Milwaukie St in 1891 according to the City Directory of Portland, Oregon.. Two children were born to this marriage: (1) Fred Ross b 13 Dec 1890 who married Louise Imogen COWDON, daughter of James Selden Cowdon and Marian Norwood CHAMBERLIN, on 31 Mar 1914 in Portland, Oregon. 5 children were born of this marriage, 3 still living. (2) Elizabeth Ross b 4 May 1892, Portland, Or. who married Charles Chester RENFRO, she died 3 Oct 1957. Three children, Mary, Robert and Richard. Joseph Ross deserted Miene 4 months prior to daughter Elizabeth's birth and in 1904 Miene filed for a divorce to protect property she had acquire on her own. Her divorce papers state that Joseph was a member of several German Societies of that time in Portland. No clues from this yet. Miene had been married twice before Joseph, First to John KEPPER and a daughter Gertrude and son John were born in Milwaukee, WI. She married second August B. DIEMEL in Milwaukee and two more children were born, Henry and Mary Diemel. I think Miene removed to Oregon abt 1888 either following or moving with her sister Mary (Stein) Stubbe, wife of William Stubbe. They resided in Estacada, Or. Miene raised all of these children plus possibly a step-son Frank Diemel in Portland. Mary and Frank Diemel removed to CA and Henry remained in Portland with his half sister and brother Fred and Elizabeth ROSS. Elizabeth was known mostly as "Lizzie" and resided and raised her family in the Sellwood area of greater Portland. If anyone knows of this family, or allied or collateral line please, I would like to hear from you. As usual this has been a brick was of many years. I have run out of documentable info and need new leads or clues. Anything to share? Thank you Sharron Emery Ross

Trying to find out something about the following line: Daniel D. Ross (no dates or locations) md. Maria Frances Meador, b. 31 Oct 1831, d. bef 05 May 1911. She was the eldest child of Joel Meador and Agnes McGeorge. Daniel and Frances were married 18 Aug 1852...probably in MO. Children: 1. Agnes Ora Ross, b. 1859, married E. E. Carpenter on 13 Oct 1886. They had a son, Wilmer Frances Carpenter, b. 4 Jan. 1888. Wilmer ended up being raised by his great aunt, Harriet Powell Meador Sevier. 2. William Francis Ross, b. 31 Jan 1869. Nothing else known about him. I am particularly interested in when and why Wilmer was raised by his great aunt, but would welcome any information on this line. Thanks! S. Drowatzky
Hi Rosalene, We're looking for a William Ross born about 1880 . . . we have no parents, no birthpace (although we've been told either GA or TN), no sibling names although there were reportedly about 13, no death date. Nothing! Would you happen to have names of any of the grandchildren of your Andrew Ross and would our William Ross fit in somewhere? Reaching for straws . . . Dear Ross Researchers, With all the "campaign" news/press releases lately, I am afraid I am going to miss something that is vital because I hit the DELETE key after viewing the subject line without reading the message. I guess what I am trying to say is that it has been a cute idea and a fun looking one, just like all the stuff on the many lost David Ross postings, but I am getting to the point where I am not reading the postings. If there are others with the fast delete key finger and you are really wanting to get your very vital query to all members of the group, then it might be necessary to give up "cute" in favor of plain, old, ordinary. Just a thought.... Well, the campaign has a new twist to it . . . It has been observed by more than one individual that the infamous, prestigious, president nominee DAVID ROSS has possibly been cloned in 1976, the product of which is our son, Andrew Ross. Does anyone know if a platform has been developed for or against the controversial issue of cloning? It would behoove the descendant of our Presidential Nominee DAVID ROSS to check his files to find possible family connection to the Vice-Presidential Nominee WILLIAM ROSS. Thank you . . . ROSS is BOSS!!!!! Four of the sons of Francis ROSS (b. 1791, SC - d. 1870, MS) ended up in Leon County, TX. (1) John Boyd ROSS (b. 1819, SC - d. 1854, Leon Co. TX) His wife was Catherine JORDAN. Did she remarry after his death? There is a family in 1860 Neshoba Co. MS that seems to have ROSS stepchildren. The name is SHUMAKER, and there are 4 SHUMAKER children and 4 ROSS children. The wife's name is Catherine. I'm trying to figure out if these ROSS step-children are kin to my Neshoba Co. MS ROSSes. (2) Abram James ROSS (b. 1826, SC - d. 1870, Leon Co. TX) (3) Leonidas Dionces ROSS (b. 1841, MS - d. 1906, Leon Co. TX) (4) George Washington ROSS, (b. 1844, AL - d. 1891, Leon Co. TX) Maybe I'm reaching on these ROSS children, but I don't have the names of any of these Leon Co. TX ROSSes. Great idea Laura, but my inside information was that he was to be picked to head up the Bureau of Indian Affairs. We need to know more of his Pow-Wow capabilities, his area, and his age. His wife must be considered too. As his campaign manager, Laura, can you fill us in on these qualifications?
Hi Michelle, Vice Presidential hopeful WILLIAM ROSS (b. abt. 1880 in GA/TN, d. 1908/9 in Coalfield, TN) may very well be related to your family. To the best of our knowledge he was a coalminer, working/living in Coalfield, TN at the time of the birth of his two sons, William Ross (surprise!?!?) and Ronald Ray Ross (my father). Someone in the area who remembers the family said they thought he died in a mining accident, however, we've been unable to locate any mining records substantiating this report. We noticed in the 1900 Morgan County Census that there was also a Marion L. Ross (wife Vera, son Marion L. Ross) and his brother Edward J. Ross. These were both born in TN but we have been unable to track their beginnings or endings either. We were hopeful that they fit into the family as well since our WILLIAM ROSS was said to have moved to the Morgan County area with two brothers. The birthdates of these other two Rosses would have fit that scenario. But, as normal, nothing concrete has evolved from our research. I am very interested in your ROSS family, especially with their involvement with the coal mines. I look forward to hearing more from you and also to know if you show a William Ross in your files. Thanks in advance . . .
