Hello Friends, The following came to me this morning from a friend in Australia. Bob ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edward Longshanks (Edward I of England) comes to Scotland to conquer the Scots. He brings 4,000 men with him. As he nears the battlefield there suddenly appears a solitary figure on the crest of the hill. A short, ginger-haired guy in a kilt. "Hammer o' the Scots?" yells the wee Scottish guy on the hill. "Come up here, ya English bastard, and I'll give ye a hammerin'!" Edward turns to his commander. "Send 20 men to deal with that little Scottish upstart, there's a good chap!", he says. The commander sends twenty of his best men over the hill to kill the Scotsman. Ten minutes later, at the crest of the hill, the little Scot appears again. "Ya English bampots!", he yells. "Come on the rest of ye!! Come on, I'll have ye a'!!!" Edward is getting somewhat annoyed. He turns to his commander. "Send 100 men to kill that little guttersnipe!" The commander sends a hundred man over the hill to do the job. Ten minutes later, the little Scot appears at the top of the hill once more, his hair all sticking up, his shirt a wee bit torn. "Ya English SCUM!", he yells. "I'm just warming up!! Come and get me, ya English gits!!" Edward losses patience. "Commander, take 400 men and personally WIPE HIM OFF THE EARTH!", he yells. The commander gulps, but leads four hundred men on horseback over the crest of the hill. Ten minutes later, the little Scotsman is back. His clothing is all torn, his face is covered in blood, snot and Irn-Bru. "Is that the best ye can do??? You're bloody WIMMIN!!! Come on!! Come and have a go ya bunch of Jessies!!!", he yells. Edward turns to his second in command. "Take 1000 men over that hill and don't come back till you've killed him!" he commands. The second in command gathers the men and they ride off over the hill to their fate. Ten minutes later, one of the English troops appears back at the top of the hill. He's covered in blood and his clothes are all torn. "Your Majesty!! he yells. "It's a trap!!! There's TWO of them!!! http://thefrasers.com This site is dedicated to all people of the name FRASER and - SCOTLAND-

Posted on: Ross Family Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Ross/494 Surname: Beatty, Thompson, Ross ------------------------- I have come across an article that states: "Family Tree, Old Dutch Post-Star, July 25, 1974" John Beatty b. 1587 m Margaret Thompson 1619. Had known sons; James b. 1620 m. Sarah Ross abt 1640(?), John b. 1621 m. Jane Ross bf. 1660(?). Jane and Sarah were sisters and the daughters of John Ross of Moffet. The Beatty families were in Ireland in the mid 1600's as far as I know. Do not know if marriages were in Scotland or Ireland. Anyone else come across this info? If John and James were brothers, this would connect two large Beatty families. If any Ross Researchers have any info on these families, please contact me. Thanks

There was a book "Elder Reuben Ross," written in 1882 by James Ross, son of Elder Reuben Ross. Book was reprinted by Ann E. Alley and Ursula S. Beach, McQuiddy Printing Co., Nashville Tennessee, 1977. From it, I gathered that only son James and daughter Nancy lived into adulthood. However, there may be a contradiction. My notes say that Reuben Ross died in Cedar Hill, Montgomery County and was buried there about Sep. 1815. But, my notes for Nancy Ross, the eldest daughter of Reuben Ross, say "Reuben (the son of Elder Reuben) had picked up a bombshell from the battle ground at Manassas and it eventually ended up at Nancy's home. When Nancy's son Eugene and others were trying to extract the powder, the shell exploded, gravely injuring Eugene. The shock of this, coupled with the news of the fall of Fort Donelson, were more than she could bear. " This certainly indicates Reuben was living into the Civil War. Unfortunately, I seem to have loaned out the book and cannot check the references. If anyone has the book, please check pages 269 and 276. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JAnn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 8:57 PM Subject: [ROSS-L] Elder Reuben Ross > Hi All, > > I recieved some info. from a very nice person on another list who thinks > there is a good chance that my Reuben Ross connects to the following: > > Elder Reuben Ross was in the vicinity of Todd CO., KY, > which is on the TN border. If ROSS list members who make postings will please put some information on the subject line about who, when & where you're searching, it would be most helpful. Simply putting a subject line reading "Ross" on the Ross discussion list tells us absolutely nothing regarding what it's about and whether we want to take the time to look at it. Thanks much.

Hi Michelle, Sounds like we have some similarities here, but nothing really to "bank" on! Do you know if your John Edward Ross b: July 13, 1882 in Laager, Grundy, Tennessee, has siblings? Do you have any pictures of him? Is there any more information you could give me on him? My husband's grandfather, William Ross, is supposedly from GA or TN, was a coal-miner, came from a sibiling group of about 13(?), was born about 1880, married in Morgan County, TN in 1900, and died prior to 1910 leaving a wife and two young sons. You can see a picture of him at http://focusontheword.com/gen/Photos/bill-julia-bike.asp Thanks . . . Posted on: Ross Family Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Ross/491 Surname: ROSS, SIPPRELL, BAILEY ------------------------- HI, I have a George W. Ross born in Limmerick Barracks, Limmerick,Ire. about August 1819. He was christened in the Catholic Church there in Limmerick. His parents names were Hugh Ross and Phlemy. George said that his father was a highlander and his mother a lowlander. George W. Ross sailed to Canada and married Deborah Sipprell in north Walsingham Twp. Norfolk Co., Ontatio. They lived there and died there. They are buried in the Sipprell burying grounds on the old family property. George and Debra had 12 children. This is a summary of the information I have. I hope this helps you somehow.
Jan, I only have a picture of Corwin/Clarence Ross, John Edward's son. The only sibling I know of to John Edward is Isaac Van Ross. I don't know whether he used Van Ross or Ross as a surname yet. Still trying to figure that one out. Luckily, I am getting the phone number of a one of John Edward's granddaughter's from my husband's half brother this week. Hopefully I'll be able to get some more info from her. I'll let you know. Dear Marita: My Recollection is that Hamilton County is where Cincinnati is and that is a long way on horseback from Washington county. David Ross had his Lear Jet hidden under some brush so the Indians wouldn't know that he was from outer space. http://members.aol.com/fourc/ross.text.html Peter In a message dated 8/22/00 10:25:24 PM, you wrote: <<How near Washington County, Ohio, is Hamilton County. In researching my Rev War Patriot, I discovered there are two of the same name who served from MD the same time in different companies. The Reuben Ross not of my lineage, died in Hamilton Co, in about 1826. Information on his Rev War Pension can be found on the National Archives Film M804- Roll 2088. His information is intermixed from item 104-190. Whether he is related to the phantom David remains to be seen. Marita >>
