    3. We have been searching for some time for yet another James Ross. James Marrian Ross (age 39, born in Tenn) and wife Amanda Ellett (or Elliott) ( age 34, born Honesdale, Pa) were in the 1870 census in Grayson County, Texas with the following children- Jane b. 1857 Missouri Frances b. 1859 Missouri Charles b. 1861 Illinois Ann b. 1864 Illinois Marjorie b. 1866 Texas Also listed was James' father, Charles H. Ross, b. 1810 Tennessee. My great grandmother was born in December, 1870, so was not on census. She was Mary Eleanor Ross, b. 1870 in Texas. We have detailed info on Mary Eleanor, but are searching for info on any or all of the others in the family. Thanks - Betsy

Didn't notice what I had done until reading the message to my husband. Guy Ross and Roda Meadows are the great, great grandparents of my husband, E. J. Pierce. The father of Angus was John and the father of John was also Angus. I have quite a bit of information on Guy and his brother John. Perhaps we should talk.

This database includes about 35,700 events from the area. Although the database simply lists each person, the type of probate record, and the date, it is invaluable because the place of residence at the date of the probate is recorded. Furthermore, the state of residence at the time of the probate is also listed in numerous instances for the deceased and his or her family members. This could help you locate relatives you thought were in Massachusetts, but who were actually living in another state or country; it also helps establish migration patterns. There are three entries dated 1885, one entry dated 1888, one entry dated 1891, and one entry dated 1894; all other records are from July 1731 to July 1881. The database lists such probate records aswills, administration of wills, guardianships, adoptions, etc. Source Information: Flint, James, comp. 2. Nancy Fredricks
    3. Greetings, I am seeking leads on my ancestor Edgar Alonzo ROSS, born Feb 1833 in Vermont. His parents came from England. About 1855, he married Hannah Maria CALKINS, born Sept 1835 in NY. Her parents (mother’s maiden name SHUFFELDT) were born in VT. Edgar and Hannah’s first child was born in Omro, WI (Winnebago Co.) in 1857. They were in Poygon, WI for the 1860 census. They may be related to the John ROSS family of Omro, WI from Bramley by Leeds, England. Family later moved to Fond du Lac (Fond du Lac Co.), Butternut (Ashland Co.) and Park Falls (Price Co.) WI and was in lumber/veneer business. Specifically, I’m looking for information on Edgar’s parents or siblings—any leads or connections to this family would be welcome. Many thanks! 1. [ROSS-L] Charles Ross & Siblings
    2. Mike Murray
    3. Here's some interesting information about my gggf, Charles Ross, and his siblings: Charles Ross was a native of Kingscraig, Inverness, Scotland, date of birth unknown. He joined the Hudson Bay Trading Company in 1818 and sailed across the Atlantic to Canada. In 1818-19 he served as a clerk at Norway House, and in 1822-23 was clerk at Lac la Pluie. In 1824 he was transferred to New Caledonia, where he served as a clerk at various remote posts for the next eight years, including being in charge of Babine Post from 1825-27. In 1838 he was sent to the Northwest Coast and stationed at Fort McLoughlin. In 1843 he received his commission as Chief Trader and was placed in charge of Fort Victoria, which was under construction at the time. He arrived at Victoria (which was then just a fort under construction) on June 3, 1843 and died just a year later on June 27, 1844, apparently of appendicitus. Charles married Isabella Merilia, a Canadian Indian with the possibility of a bit of Spanish ancestry and had 9 children. Isabella became the first woman to own property in Victoria, Canada and it is after her that Ross Bay (in Victoria) is named. She died in 1885. Charles had a brother, Walter, a physician who settled in British Guiana and there amassed a considerable fortune. Walter died in 1832. Another brother was John, a clergyman, in all probability a Presbyterian, who lived and whose family survived him in Edinburgh. He became a chaplain on a 60 ton sailing frigate, the Planet, bound for Caracas on some adventurous scheme, which proved to be a disasterous one financially. On this voyage John visited his brother, Dr. Walter, in British Honduras. John was lost at sea... A sister was married to a Mr. Young, who from 1820 - 1862 was editor and proprietor of The London Sun. (This info comes from the Victoria Daily Times, April 29, 1922) He also had a sister Elizabeth (Mrs. Joseph Macdonald) and another sister named Kate. Please let me know if your Rosses link up to any of these! Thanks, Mike Murray

    2. Since everyone else is posting James Ross, here is mine. James Ross born 1793 KY married Nancy Miller born 1800 KY. They were married in Estill Co.KY May or 1814. I believe James is the son of John Ross Sr. from Madison Co.KY. This John came from Greenville SC to Madison Co.KY in 1791. He gave his land away to his children in KY just before he died in 1844. I believe he gave my James cash to move to MO around 1820 so James didn't get any land. I know Nancy Miller's family were in Madison just before county lines changed and Estill was made from Madison. 3. Does anyone have information on "unknown" Ross who married Annie Henry around 1880 in western Kentucky. They had two sons that survived to adulthood. I found them [Henry Milan Augustus Ross (Ed) and Cleve Ross] on the 1910 census in Mississippi County, Missouri, and on the 1920 census in Poinsett County, AR. A couple of great aunts, daughters of Henry (alias Ed) told me that Henry (Ed) & Cleve's parents separated when the boys were very young. Annie Ross never remarried; however, her ex-husband remarried shortly afterwards and had several children. I have a picture of three of the unknown Ross's children by his second marriage. Henry (Ed) & Cleve and their mother moved to Poinsett County, Arkansas, around 1920. Their tombstones are in Poinsett County around Harrisburg. Any information would be welcome. Penny
