    3. This is a newsletter for Ross genealogy, and it is not appropriate to send out information warning about a hoax virus. The "Life is Beautiful" email is NOT A VIRUS AND WARNINGS ABOUT IT SHOULD NOT BE PASSED ON TO OTHERS; that's exactly how hoaxes propagate (this one's been circulating for two years). This is the second virus-related email I've received this week sent by the same person. (By the way, Microsoft does not send out information about viruses, which is a dead give away that it's a hoax...) Please refer to Network Associates/McAfee's website at http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99307.htm for the facts on this hoax and to http://vil.nai.com/vil/default.asp for information on any other real virus threats, including hoaxes. Sherry Ratliff mailto:backintexas@austin.rr.com -----Original Message----- From: Spiritgrny@aol.com [mailto:Spiritgrny@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 03, 2003 8:46 PM To: ROSS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROSS-L] Just in case, don't open "Life is Beaut...Verified. I am not at work so had time to look this up on Hoaxbusters. Another watch out for this file hoax. This time it is a PowerPoint presentation. Now, a power point presentation could contain a virus, just like Word and Excel so always check them with an antivirus program before opening a downloaded file and turn off auto-execution of included macros. This information arrived this morning, from Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who accesses the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a PowerPoint presentation called "Life is beautiful.pps." If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful", subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, email and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO STOP THIS VIRUS. UOL has already confirmed its dangerousness, and the antivirus Softs are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner", and who aims to destroying domestic PCs and who also fights Microsoft in court! That's why it comes disguised with extension pps. He fights in court for the Windows-XP patent. 2. I got this from a friend and thot it was so good, I'd pass it on. Happy Bird-day all. Spirit For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped, For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped, For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb, For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home -- Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving! For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land, For the cunning and strength of the working man's hand, For the good that our artists and poets have taught, For the friendship that hope and affection have brought -- Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving! For the homes that with purest affection are blest, For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest, For our country extending from sea unto sea; The land that is known as the "Land of the Free" -- Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving! ~Author Unknown~ To My Family & Friends.... I am Thankful for YOU! And may YOUR Thanksgiving...be truly Thankful! "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, and His mercy endureth forever." -- Psalms 107:1

    3. I need your assistance. I posted this message several moths ago. So, for those of you who've already seen it, I apologize. I'm seeking information/linkage on Ambrose Ross, whose father was a drummer boy for the South in the Civil War. Married Emma Self, 18??. Had several Children, one of whom was Albert Wilson Ross, born 11-11-1890, on the Fred Reel farm, two miles east of Vincennes, Indiana. Albert married Anna ??? and they lived at 744 Carolina Street, Gary, Indiana. He was a WWI U.S. Navy vet and received a Master Mason Degree, 4-22-21, from Roosevelt Lodge # 716 (now located in Hobart, Indiana). He later lived at 21 W. 5th Street, Gary, Indiana. Newspaper reports at the time of his marriage to Esther Mae Thompson, 2-29-24, indicate that "Mr Ross is a Gary pioneer and as such is one of the best known young men in the city". He was a barber at the Washington Hotel in Gary. Following this marriage he moved to Portland, OR, returning to Gary only for a four-year ! period, 1928 - 1932. He died in an auto accident near Portland, 3-1-1959. Interested in any information you may have on Ambrose, Emma or siblings of Albert Wilson Ross. Thank you! Michael Thompson Ross

    3. I'm searching for information on Donald ROSS who were evacuated to Guysborough, Nova Scotia in 1783 following the war. He received two land grants in Guysborough in 1783. He married Ann MORRIS, daughter of Richard MORRIS, date unk, but before 1784. It appears (but not yet confirmed) that Donald ROSS shows up on the muster rolls of the King's Royal Regiment of New York, Captain Alexander McDonnell's Company. I have confirmed, through the 1817 census, that Donald ROSS was born in Scotland and was "over the age of 50" at the time of the 1817 census. If anyone has additional information about his origins in Scotland, and his parents, I would be most grateful! Many thanks! ~~~Pam

    1. [ROSS-L] Thomas Ross, born abt 1849
    2. Robert Ross
    3. Seeking the gender of “THOMAS” ROSS, born abt 1849 in Warren County, New York. I show “THOMAS” as female, but my guess is that I made a typo. I need to verify the correct gender. The parents of “THOMAS” were Roswell Ross and Harriet Daniels. My notes say that I obtained my information from Jeannine Van Lew, but the e-mail sent to the address in my notes bounced. Also the telephone number was `not a working number’. If anyone can advise the correct gender, I will be very pleased. Also if Jeannine is on this list, I would like to have the correct e-mail address and the correct telephone number. Thanks for any help.
