Moses Ross was at the fall of Charlestown to the British in 1780 and signed the petition of the "Country Militia" to surrender; his signature appears between the signatures of Samuel Chandler and Thos. Compton (Charleston 1897 Yearbook). [Both Samuel Chandler and Thos. Compton can be proven to have lived in that part of Camden District that became Sumter District.] Moses Ross' signature on the petition is "a match" to his signature in his Audited Account #6615 at the SC Archives for 69 days duty from 1-1-1782 to 12-15-1782. State of South Carolina To Moses Ross ... To 69 days Mil. & Lt. Drag. pay a 2/4 Day ... Camden District Moses Ross personally appeared and Swear the above Acct. is Just and True. - Sworn before me the 3rd day of August 1784. - Wm. Martin J.P. Moses Ross South Carolina was unable to pay at one time the entire debt owed to her soldiers, but gave them an Indent for the amount owed, paying interest for some years. All of the following was taken from papers in Audited Account file for Moses Ross. Indent X148 dated 8-30-1785 issued to Moses Ross: 8 pounds, one shilling, Principal; 11 shillings, 3 pence, Annual Interest. "Recd 30th August 1785 Full Satisfaction for the within, in an Indent X148 .. Moses Ross" Moses Ross signed a paper that on 6-13-1786, he had received 3 years Interest. "I do here by [difficult to read, looks like assign] over my Right Title and interest of this within indent to John Brownlee for [difficult to read, looks like value] Recd. Sept. 29th 1787 [signed] Moses Ross." On 1-4-1788, John Brownlee assigned the account to William Poole. There is no clue in the above Audited Account file as to where Moses Ross was when he signed for receiving his Indent on 8-30-1785, for the interest on 6-13-1786, the sale of the Indent on 9-29-1787. One John Brownlee was living in the city of Charleston on the 1790 SC Census, but this does not necessarily mean that Moses Ross was living in Charleston when the Indent was sold. Another John Brownlee was living in Abbeville Co, SC in 1790. Nothing more was found for Moses Ross in the area that became Sumter District records. If this is indeed Moses, son of Reuben Ross, his father apparently died before 1788 probably in SC. His mother died in 1796 location unknown. His brother Benjamin moved to the Lincoln Co, NC area and later Burke Co, NC, his brother Stephen Ross moved from Clarendon Co, SC to Abbeville Co, SC. His brother Solomon I am unsure about but may be the Solomon Ross found in Rutherford Co, NC 1810-1820, Sister Hannah married 1st unknown Coleman and 2nd Nathaniel Marion, sister Elizabeth married Jesse Hilton, sister Priscilla I have no further information on. 1. ROSS IN MO, OK, OR
    2. j a
    3. Helllo All, STill in search of my elusive Ross family. My Reuben J. Ross was in Cooper Co MO by 1860 when he married Nancy A. Snodgrass Casy. Where he was before that I do not know. Can not seem to find a Reuben J. Ross in the MO census for 1850 or 1860.....just an 1860 marriage record. Then he is in the 1870 and 1880 census, but then disappears again. He and Nancy had three boys....George Emory who married a Winnie Dishion, Joseph Walter who married Nina Mae Scott and James T. I know mucy about JOseph and George but nothing on James T. We think the T. is for Thomas but have not been able to confirm this. I recently have been working on finding out about James T......I have followed a James T. Ross who was born the same time as my James T. I do not know if he married in MO or OK. He went from MO to OK. While in OK, Kingfisher Co., he had at least two children, George Thomas Ross and Rettia Ross. By 1919 James and his family had relocated to Benton Co. Oregon and I find him on the 1920 and 1930 census records. There is no wife listed in either of these census. The two children are on the 1920 census with him. Both children were married in 1924, George Thomas Ross to Hazel M. Brazeal and Rettia Ross to Walter Burr Kirby. George Thomas is on the 1930 census in Lane Oregon with wife Hazel and son Eugene P. Ross. But....I struck gold when I located this obit for George Thomas Ross...Not only does it list his mothers name but it also gave me the county in OK in which he was born!!!! ROSS George Thomas Ross, 74, of 2665 SW 53rd died Tuesday morning in Good Samaritin Hospital. He waas a logger for most of his life. He was born Oct. 24, 1904, in Kingfisher County, Okla., the son of James and Cora Lotspitch Ross. He lived in Okalahoma until moving to Oregon in 1919. Surviving are two daughters, Dolores Wallace of Philomath and Darlene Adams of Corvallis, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons. I would love to find descendatns of this family to confirm that this is indeed my James T. Ross from Cooper Co. MO, Son of Reuben J. Ross. 3. Hi David, I wish I could help with your Flannigan. I can't get beyond my Flanagan in Henry Co VA (born in NC abt 1822). However, have you checked Gary Flanagan's site? He has done much research on the KY Flanagans. http://flanaganfamily.tripod.com/ Try to overlook his political/religious views. He has lots of info. Also, have you discovered http://www.msnusers.com/RossFamilyAssociation/rossgenealogy.msnw or http://www.clanrossassociation.org/ I am a Flanagan and my grandmother was a Ross from West TN. 1. Looking for Any Ross Families in Ky.
    2. Debra McBride
    3. Hi List, I am searching for William Ross that married Sarah Noland on July 3, 1802 in Madison Co. Ky. She was the daughter of William Noland and Phebe Henderson and she was born in 1782. I find alot of Ross's in this county and surrounding counties, but cannot find any relatives of his, as I cant locate his parents or siblings or exactly when and where he was born. I am looking at a William Ross that was born in 1780 in either Montgomery or Botetourt Co. Va. which his parents were John Ross Jr. and Mary McDonald. I have done research for these families and all the names is the same as in my family. Im trying to establish a connection to this John Ross Jr. and Mary McDonald Ross in which I am thinking could be through their son William Ross. He was the second child born to them. It is just strange, that I can find info. about the rest of his siblings except him. Does anyone know anything about this William Ross, I have mentioned, or have any clues about the William Ross who was the son of John Ross Jr. and Mary McDonald. Both of these Williams may be totally different and come from different families, but at least if I find out about one of them, my searches would be so much easier. I sure need some help with this William or possibly any connections in Ky. or in Madison Co. Ky. ANything would sure be appreciated. Thanks for your time. 2. David Petricek
    3. I am looking for information on my ggggrandmother and the man she was supposed to have married. Her name is Mary Ann Ross, b. June 23, 1835 in Carter County, KY and d. March 12, 1902 in Ross County, Twin Township, Ohio. Mary (Polly) Ann was 3 months pregnant and was to marry Mr. Flannigan, but he drowned after attempting to swim his horse across a swollen stream. His body was caught in some brush. They had a marriage license in FLANNIGAN'S pocket when he died. My gggrandfather took his mother's name, his name is Leander Camel Scott Ross, b. December 13, 1848 in Greenup County, Kentucky, d. October 29, 1917 in Harrah, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. MAry Ann later married Robert Wilburn and they had five more children. Any information you have would be appreciated, I am especially interested in the name of Mr. Flannigan. David Oklahoma
