The obits, whether new or old, are of interest to some people. Genealogy is the study of family origins, but most people include present day relatives also. My problem is, I don't have any information on my "present-day" ROSE relatives, so I wouldn't know one if I saw one. Since I haven't posted to this board for a while, I will put out a refresher of which line I am looking for: Sarah Ann Rose, b: 1829, d: 1871, Franklin Co, KS. (2nd gr-grandmother) Sarah married Josiah Biggs III, in Green County, IL, 1851. Sarah Ann and Josiah moved to Fannin County, TX to live near her brother, James Monroe Rose, and his wife and family. While living in Texas, her first three sons were born: William F Biggs, b: abt 1853, and James Allen and John Albert Biggs, b: May 29, 1855. In October, 1860 the BIGGS family moved to Kansas, eventually settling in Franklin County. More children were born to their family while living in Kansas, and Sarah died shortly after giving birth to her last baby, a little boy, Charles L, who also died about a month after his mother. Sarah Ann Rose's father was John Rose, born abt 1785 Her siblings were: Cynthia Rose, b: abt 1820, Ohio; married William Hodges Nancy Rose, b: abt 1821, Ohio James Monroe Rose, b: abt 1823, m: Eliza Ann Laken John Rose, b: ILL, d: July, 1859, age 33- Mary J Rose, b: abt 1832, ILL, m: Tyre Martin; Isabel C Rose, b: abt 1836, ILL, m: unknown Furnham Other possible siblings,--- Isaiah M Rose - (m: Sarah Friend) Dorothy Rose - (m: Israel Phillips) *** James Monroe Rose , oldest brother of Sarah Rose(Biggs) was living in Sonoma County, CA by 1870. He is listed in the 1870 census with his wife, Eliza J, age 44; and children John, age 18, Matthew, age 14, Lewis, age 12, Martha, age 8; and James, age 6. I do not know if James Rose stayed in California, and do not know any further information on him, or his family. I do know that Josiah Biggs III went to California after the death of his wife, Sarah Rose-Biggs, and lived there for about 2 years. I'm assuming this was to be near his brother-in-law, James Rose. Cynthia Rose (Hodges) was apparently widowed by 1850, as she is living with her father, John Rose. She has two children, Sarah Hodges, age 7, and Elizabeth Hodges, age 4. (1850 Green County, IL census) In the 1860 census of Green County, IL, Cynthia Hodges is not listed in the household, but her two children are still there, - Sarah J, age 17, and Elizabeth, age 14. (I'm assuming Cynthia may have been deceased) Little sister Nancy Rose, age 37, is still living at home, and their father, John Rose, age 74 is still living. He told the census taker he was born in PA. John Rose, brother of Sarah Ann Rose, died in 1859, at age 33. He was not married. Well, enough on my ROSE line for now. If anyone has a minute possibility of relating to this family, I would be happy to hear from you. Hope to hear from someone soon......... Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 14:51:20 -0400 Hi.. maybe Im not understanding all the postings that I get from this ROSE listing. Are all the obituaries "recent ones"? I thought this was a genealogy listing which to me means historical based info? Thanks for clearing this up for me.
