In response to the note below, I have in my family tree a few George W. Roses from the SC/NC/TN area. Also a connection to the Slaughter family and King family. I am not a descendant of the ROSE linage but have been researching for a friend. I am descendant of FARR's from Graham County and I believe DAVIS from Monroe, Blount and Graham, but connect find the DAVIS connection outside of Blount Co., TN. The linage I research are descendants of Nathan ROSE born in Yancy County NC in 1800. (source: tombstone erected by descendants). He married Rebecca ROWEN who I was told was the daughter of Isaac ROWEN and wife Mary of Carter Co TN, later in Graham County NC. Nathan ROSE bought land in Cades Cove, Blount Co.,TN in 1836 from John LACY. In 1845 he recieved a land grant also in Cades Cove. By 1850 he is in Cherokee County NC. In 1873 Nathan ROSE is listed in tax records Loudon Co. TN. Nathan and Rebecca ROSE had these children: 1. Isaac T. ROSE b. 1831 m. Nancy SLAUGHTER. Many of you are knowledgeable on this linage. ( I have SLAUGHTER connections in Blount Co., TN) 2. Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" ROSE b. abt. 1833 was the mother of (1.) William Patrick ROSE b. 1856 in Loudon Co TN(?) m. Alice COOPER and (2) Walla Walls. William P. and Walla ROSE were the parents of Walter Gerald ROSE b. 1921 and died 1992 in Blount Co TN. Walter married Edna L.CALHOUN, daughter of Jack T. CALHOUN 1895-1933 and Bonnie JENKINS b.1895. Jack was a forest warden who was shot and killed by his son, after he had disiplined the boy, age 17. Elizabeth had other children; (2.) Mack C. ROSE b. abt. 1860 m. Sophia SMITH in Loudon Co,TN. ( 3.) Caldony "Callie" ROSE 1866-1885 m. Wallace CRUSE. Family tradition has that one of the sons of Elizabeth ROSE was fathered by William H. THOMAS the first "White Chief of the Cherokee", and another was fathered by Gabrial RICE of Graham Co. I have found no proof of this. Elizabeth's father did know William H. THOMAS as they conducted business transactions, but many people did as Wm. THOMAS was a local businessman. Mack ROSE is found living in the household of Gabrial RICE in Graham Co., NC in 1880 at age 20. He is listed as a boarder. This only proves the families knew one another nothing more.
