Right now I can't say for sure what part of Ohio my ROSES were from. I need to get busy and try to find a death record for James Monroe Rose - my Sarah Ann's brother. He most likely died in the San Joaquin Valley, California area, in the early 1900s. I can't believe there were so many Pleasant Roses. I thought it was an unusual name, but apparently not. In the 1850 Census- Washington Co, ILL Isaah Rose, age 38, b: ILL Sally Rose, age 35, b: NC Pleasant Rose, age 18, b: ILL James M. Rose, age 14 John Rose, age 11 Another Pleasant Rose, b: 1810-1820(per 1840 census)d: abt 1849, probably Cass Co, IL. He married Nancy Witty , Green County, ILL, aug, 1833. It appears that this Pleasant Rose lived in Cass Co in 1840, as he is listed on the census. Is it possible that this Pleasant Rose was a brother to the Isaah Rose mentioned above? They would have been close enough in age to be brothers, thus explaining why Isaah named a son after him. I don't know..... ******* Now I have another mystery to solve- About 10 years ago, before anyone in my family was interested in family history, a letter of inquiry was received and never answered (shame, shame!) Well, I was given this letter about 4 years too late. The author of the inquiry was deceased in 1996. The subject of her inquiry was our ROSE/BIGGS relation. She thinks that her ROSE line might have been related to mine. But, I don't know anything about her, other than her name. I found her listed on the SS death index - her name was ZOLA YARDLEY. If anyone there knows of this lady, or how to get in touch with any of her family, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks Debbie ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Charlotte R. My grandmother was Mary Rosalia HUTCHINS who married Lifus Milo ROSE in Ohio in 1902. I do not know of a Montgomery B. ROSE in my ROSEs. Debbie, do you know what part of Ohio your ROSEs came from? There was a Pleasant ROSE who was an uncle of my great-grandfather, Sebird ROSE. This Pleasant was born 15 May 1820 and died 2 February 1806 in Gallia County, Ohio and married Amanda Yingling. Do not open any attachments that you have recieved from me. If you have virus protection software I suggest you scan all local harddrives immediately. 3 Files which will be infected and must be removed include: KERN32.EXE hksdll.dll INETD.EXE These files are located in the WINDOWS, and WINDOWS/SYSTEM folders more than likely on your C: drive. Once you find them, you will have to boot from a startup disk, and remove them in the DOS shell, because they are registered as system files. This sounds scary, but they are not legitimate system files in the first place, so you will do your operating system no harm by removing them. I appologize for any inconvenience, and hopefully you will have little difficulty in their removal. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wanda Smith" <dolledup@bellsouth.net> To: <bluefin35@sympatico.ca> Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2001 7:22 AM > Lynda, > I tried to open the attachment that you sent, but unfortunately was not able > to do so. I remember finding more than one Sarah Ann Rose when I first started looking for her family. The middle name Ann is very popular, and goes with Sarah quite nicely :) But, I have also found that many families which were related, named their children after each other. It makes it so confusing when trying to sort it all out. My Roses and Biggs were living in or near Bonham, in Fannin County, Texas, which is in the northern part of the state. But, that wouldn't totally eliminate a connection to your family either. It is possible that my Sarah Ann Rose was born in Franklin County, Ohio. (kind of strange, since she died in Franklin County, Kansas) It is also thought, but not known for sure, that her father, John Rose, had a brother, Philip Rose, of Franklin County, Ohio. There is also some speculation that this branch of Roses is related to Pleasant Rose. Pleasant was b: between 1810- 1820, married 1833, Greene Co, IL. He married Nancy Witty. He died, probably Cass Co, ILL. Another possible relation is Alexander Rose. He died abt 1849, Cass Co, ILL. I'm sorry, but I don't know any more about this family, other than Sarah Ann's descendants, which is my direct line. I wish I could be of more help. But, hopefully this has helped someone.... :) Debbie ----Original Message Follows---- From: Poohbear & Tigger <lizkevin@gci.net> To: debbie motsinger <dmotsinger@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [ROSE] Obits & Illinois Roses Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 17:13:19 -0800 Wow! The obits, whether new or old, are of interest to some people. Genealogy is the study of family origins, but most people include present day relatives also. My problem is, I don't have any information on my "present-day" ROSE relatives, so I wouldn't know one if I saw one. Since I haven't posted to this board for a while, I will put out a refresher of which line I am looking for: Sarah Ann Rose, b: 1829, d: 1871, Franklin Co, KS. (2nd gr-grandmother) Sarah married Josiah Biggs III, in Green County, IL, 1851. Sarah Ann and Josiah moved to Fannin County, TX to live near her brother, James Monroe Rose, and his wife and family. While living in Texas, her first three sons were born: William F Biggs, b: abt 1853, and James Allen and John Albert Biggs, b: May 29, 1855. In October, 1860 the BIGGS family moved to Kansas, eventually settling in Franklin County. More children were born to their family while living in Kansas, and Sarah died shortly after giving birth to her last baby, a little boy, Charles L, who also died about a month after his mother. Sarah Ann Rose's father was John Rose, born abt 1785 Her siblings were: Cynthia Rose, b: abt 1820, Ohio; married William Hodges Nancy Rose, b: abt 1821, Ohio James Monroe Rose, b: abt 1823, m: Eliza Ann Laken John Rose, b: ILL, d: July, 1859, age 33- Mary J Rose, b: abt 1832, ILL, m: Tyre Martin; Isabel C Rose, b: abt 1836, ILL, m: unknown Furnham Other possible siblings,--- Isaiah M Rose - (m: Sarah Friend) Dorothy Rose - (m: Israel Phillips) *** James Monroe Rose , oldest brother of Sarah Rose(Biggs) was living in Sonoma County, CA by 1870. He is listed in the 1870 census with his wife, Eliza J, age 44; and children John, age 18, Matthew, age 14, Lewis, age 12, Martha, age 8; and James, age 6. I do not know if James Rose stayed in California, and do not know any further information on him, or his family. I do know that Josiah Biggs III went to California after the death of his wife, Sarah Rose-Biggs, and lived there for about 2 years. I'm assuming this was to be near his brother-in-law, James Rose. Cynthia Rose (Hodges) was apparently widowed by 1850, as she is living with her father, John Rose. She has two children, Sarah Hodges, age 7, and Elizabeth Hodges, age 4. (1850 Green County, IL census) In the 1860 census of Green County, IL, Cynthia Hodges is not listed in the household, but her two children are still there, - Sarah J, age 17, and Elizabeth, age 14.
