Familysearch.org IGI is a source of Roscommon baptisms through extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. However, they were copied exactly as written in the sacramental register so they are in Latin. The IGI compensates for the Latin and responds to the English entry in Familysearch. Because there are 17 parishes in Roscommon I saved money and time by not getting the microfilm or going to Salt Lake but emailing the Heritage Centre. For $50 they sent me the information. I then ordered the appropriate microfilm as the IGI is not a primary source for documentation. The Mormon missionaries spent several years microfilming the sacramental registers in Mayo and Roscommon. Be aware that the National Libray of Ireland did the original microfilming of sacramental register from whatever date was the earliest record to 1880 to cover the period when Civil Registration was just beginning in 1864. They have no intention of doing anymore. However, the Mormon microfilm has some later dates if the parish priest gave permission. Best wishes for a successful ancestral hunt. ________________________________________________________________________ Check Out the new free AIM(R) Mail -- Unlimited storage and industry-leading spam and email virus protection.
