    3. Hi Richard. My GGGrandmother Honora Scott from Elphin married Thomas Durr. They lived at Mantua near Elphin. A child, Jane was born in 1842 and Catherine in 1853. There was also Patrick. We do not know of the others. Jane and Catherine came to Melbourne Australia. Thomas accompanied Jane to Melbourne in about 1860 but returned to Ireland. Can anybody add anything? Thank you, Tricia -----Original Message----- From: roscommon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:roscommon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of roscommon-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, 3 February 2007 5:01 PM To: roscommon@rootsweb.com Subject: ROSCOMMON Digest, Vol 2, Issue 10 Today's Topics: 1. Krug). I am trying to see if they are the parents of my great-grandfather, Edward Byrne, b. 1844, NY). Both of these Edward Byrnes were in Sauk or neighboring Richland Counties, WI, in the 1870s. Any ideas welcome. -----Original Message----- From: roscommon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:roscommon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Loree Sent: Friday, February 02, 2007 9:47 AM To: roscommon@rootsweb.com Subject: [joe] Re: [ROSCOMMON] Towns in Roscommon Our family was not far from Elphin.... in Tumna - MULDOWNEY. Two, maybe-brothers, John and Thomas, were leasing land at the time of Tithes, 1830s. In 1849, John's son, John (great-grandfather) immigrated to US. Married Bridget McGEE in Boston, and they moved on to Sandusky, Ohio. They only stayed there until about 1856, and then returned to Ireland. In Griffiths Valuation, John was there with the two properties that his (? father and uncle...maybe) leased in the 1830s. John and Bridget lived in a small farmhouse and raised 10 children, until 1879, when they all immigrated, and settled in Providence, Rhode Island. I *believe* great-grandpa John had these siblings, and probably more I don't know of: TIMOTHY m. BRIDGET MURRY at Cootehall, ca 1847. Proprietor of grocer (or baker) store in Cootehall. Died in Cootehall. One daughter, Mary Muldowney m. JOHN DUNN at Cootehall, 1876. THOMAS m. Frances FORRY at Cootehall, 1850. Immigrated to Sandusky, OH. Died Sandusky BRIDGET m. Owen /Eurgene MORAGHAN. They had a bunch of children baptized at Cootehall, 1840s-1860s. I believe they stayed in the Tumna area, but I've not been able to trace them. We visited Moigh, met the neighbors, and the current owners of the house who invited us to come in and feel at home. It hadn't changed much, except for the addition of a very small kitchen, a bathroom, and a little front "porch." Those additions were made probably about 1913... by the Lynch family, ancestors of the present owners. I believe but can't prove - yet - that the Lynches were related to the Muldowneys. When John Muldowney finally gave up the land in 1879, it was leased over to LAURENCE LYNCH. I have been told that he was unmarried, and that a nephew of his then had the land. When the Irish were allowed to purchase the lands they leased, it was bought by Tom Lynch. I haven't come across any Stewarts in the family. Darn! I have two BYRNE families from Ireland: 1. Patrick TOOLAN married Catherine BYRNE. They were living in Tully/Roscommon in 1865. Their daughter Mary (b. 1844) (my Great-Grandmother) migrated to Sydney, NSW, Australia in 1865 on a ship called Wallsea. 2. James BYRNE was married to Winifred ? They were both dead by 1855. Their son James BYRNE (b. about 1816 in Creeve, Roscommon) married Mary KEARNEY (b. about 1817 in Elphin, Roscommon) in about 1837. The family migrated to Sydney, NSW, Australia in 1855 on a ship called Mangerton. Their children and their respective ages in 1855 were: Michael (18), Bridget (16), John (13) (my Great-Grandfather), Catherine (11), Winifred (9) and Mary (7). I assume that Tully, Creeve and Elphin are all located close to each other. This is all of the information I have concerning the BYRNE, TOOLAN and KEARNEY families back to the point when they left Ireland. Maybe there is some connection with your BYRNE family? I hope so. I am a member of the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society and The Wyong Family History Group.
