Someone at [email protected] writes: << Possibly both natives of parish Ballerbrahan ????,Balleydrahan,Balleydraham?? If some one could help with either parish or location,ie: townlands >> If I assume that these alternative names were based on an oral recitation of the townland name - rather than copying from a written or printed original - then I think I have three possible townlands. They all have the letter "g" however, which would be noticeable (I'd think) in a written original document. But the "g", especially as a "gh", could be quite easily heard as an "h". So here are my three guesses: Ballyboughan townland is in Roscommon civil parish, just one mile NW of the town of Roscommon. Ballybroghan townland is in Kilcooley civil parish, on the eastern side of the N 61 national road between Tulsk and Roscommon town, a little more than one mile SE of Tulsk itself. Ballybrogan townland is in St. John's civil parish, one mile SE of Lecarrow and 4 miles SE of Knockcroghery, between the N 61 and Lough Ree. That's about it, I think.
