My COX ancestors came to England during the evictions of the late 1840s, there were three brothers; Henry, Daniel (my great-great grandfather) and Patrick, they came from the parish of Kilglass. Initially, they settled in rural Northumberland and then migrated to industrial Teesside during the early industrial growth of that area, labouring in the steel mills. COX was, and still is, a very common name in Roscommon, during the time of the famine and evictions it was the second most common name. I attended the Ballykilcline reunion in Strokestown last year and did some research whilst I was there, but could not get a handle on my Coxes. I did write an article, arising from that visit, which is to be published in Family Tree Magazine, here in the U.K., but it will not appear for about twelve months. Andrew Wood Stockton on Tees UK
