Hi everyone, I have just joined the mailing list today. My name is Lisa and my grandad John Regan was born in Carownamaddy, Roscommon in 1880. I have only recently found this out, as John was in the police in Ireland until he 'left' along with many others in 1922. He settled with his young family in Westmeath, where my dad Sylvester was born in 1930. He was very secretive about his life in Roscommon, to the point that his children know next-to-nothing about it. It is just recently that I had some research done over in Roscommon and we have uncovered the names of his brothers and sisters and his parents and grandparents - all previously unknown. So, I am new to Roscommon research. I also recently wrote a letter to the Roscommon Herald and have had a lovely reply from an old man of 86 who remembers talk of the Regan family in Carownamaddy. He has even sent me a map of the 'homestead' as he calls it. I am interested in finding any descendants of the Regan family. I have five siblings of John Regan to yet account for, so still something to go at. I have just written to the priest in Elphin to see if he can uncover any more details for me. It seems they would have worshipped at Creeve church. So, that's my introduction for now. I look forward to joining in any discussions I am able to.
