Hello Steve: Very good to hear from you.... regarding the name McCarty. As I've said on the Roscommon Web Site, this is only a subsidiary name for me - as far as I know I'm not descended from a McCarty/McCarthy family, but a Denis and Ann McCarty were Godparents to my great-grandfather's brother in Birmingham in 1845. But as I can't connect with any other families in Roscommon as yet, I really don't know what particular families are mine! In the St. Chad's registers in Birmingham - I found a Dennis McCarty m. Joanna O'Leary on the 2nd May, 1825, so they were one of the first families to appear in the parish from Roscommon. My earliest NEARY ancestors were married in 1835 also at St. Chad's - Martin NEARY was only 17 and his bride Bridget MURRAY was 27. They went on to have six sons, two of whom (I think) went to the U.S. and the remainder stayed in Birmingham - my great-grandfather John NEARY having served over 20 years in the Army stationed on the sub-Continent. I look forward very much to hearing from you - perhaps we have information to share and maybe two heads will be better than one. I'm still in search of a townland for mine - I wonder if you know where your McCarty people came from? Incidentally, where are you?
