Ellen: Wondering if you can do a lookup for me as well; I am going to Ireland in late September but won't have enough time to do research there. I am searching for the family home of my direct paternal line (HIGGINS). His wife came from the little townland of Copse just outside of Boyle, Co Roscommon so I do think he lived somewhere close by; unfortunately, I do not know the location for certain, nor do I know names of parents or siblings, just his, PATRICK HIGGINS and he was supposed to have been born abt 1829. I have been told that there was a Higgins family that lived in Ardagh, Co Roscommon at one time and would like to check that out if possible. What I did in the research to find the family of his wife was to gather the names and locations of all the people from Griffith's by the same surname. I think that will have to be the first step in trying to find Patrick and his family. Patrick was married, his wife was baptized, and all the children were baptized in the Boyle RC Church which would be the Elphin RC Parish, I believe. I do not know whether Ardagh is in that parish but think it might be since it is/was located about 1/2 mile due West of Boyle and is shown in the Discovery Map Series #33 as either being part of or right next to Ballylugnagon. I have used Griffith's and have gleaned all the information I can from it but it hasn't helped. Any information would be appreciated. If you give me more information maybe I can help you. I need the parish. Have you used the Griffith's Valuation Index? Like most of you, I am on an ancestor hunt and have been advised that to move past my brick wall(s), I should look at the tithe book that dates back to the 1820s. That would be an enormous help, but how to do it is the question. Is is possible that it is on line, and if so - how do I get to it? If not, then what? Many thanks. Fran Weeks
